WREXHAM FC owner Alex Hamilton today told the Evening Leader he intends to plough ahead with plans to shut down The Racecourse and use the land for housing or shops.
He said he would lodge a planning application in the New Year with Wrexham Council.
And the club’s controversial major shareholder, who quit as chairman at a board meeting on Friday last week, says he WILL hold an extraordinary general meeting to remove surviving directors David Bennett and David Griffiths and anyone they bring on to the board.
Referring to reports he was reconsidering his resignation, he said: “That’s rubbish. I have resigned as chairman because I cannot work with the two Davids. We had agreed that company secretary Gail Stubbs should be a director, but on Friday the two Davids voted against that.

“I am today putting together notice for the directors that an extraordinary general meeting will be held, probably in the middle of December. That meeting will see the removal of the two directors and anyone else they bring on to the board in the meantime.
“You can quote me on this – they are history and anyone they bring on is history if they do it without my blessing. I am still the major shareholder, I own the club and even though I am not chairman or a director I can do this.
“It is tough at the moment but it’s going to get tougher.”
Asked what he can see happening in the future, particularly in regard to a winding up petition in the High Court from the Inland Revenue which is set to be heard on November 17, Mr Hamilton said: “I am not a director any more so it is difficult to say, but I anticipate the court will appoint an administrator or the club may well go into liquidation.”
Asked about Wrexham Council’s plans to buy The Racecourse site, Mr Hamilton said: “I welcome their interest and I welcome the negotiations but they need to get on with it quickly.

“I can tell you in the New Year I will be lodging a planning application to develop The Racecourse site – the whole thing. Either for property or retail. This was always the plan – relocate the club or do a groundshare and use The Racecourse land to save the club. The truth is 95 per cent of the Wrexham public do not want football. The crowds are too low and only a fraction of those who could come each Saturday do bother.
“I appreciate they are incredibly loyal customers but not enough – look at the attendances.

“These are tough times but let me tell you this. This is the most fun I have had with my clothes on since I was 20-years-old.”
Mr Hamilton confirmed he would meet members of the Wrexham Supporters Trust today to discuss their proposals but warned there would be no deal until supporters who demonstrated outside his Cheshire home are identified.
Mr Hamilton alleged the fans has stolen his mail and caused damage to his property: “It’s a police matter now but I will not be agreeing to anything until they are identified. They are doing their cause no good whatsoever. If they are not identified there will be no football at The Racecourse by next July.”

Mr Hamilton’s meeting with Wrexham Supporters Trust is one of a series of meetings which will decide the future of the club.
Remaining directors David Bennett and David Griffiths were today due to have a meeting with manager Denis Smith to discuss a way forward.

Mr Bennett and Mr Griffiths are also keen to hold talks on forming a new board of directors.
And the two directors were also due to hold talks with Wrexham Supporters Trust members today to figure out if the fans’ group can play a key role in the future of the club.
The meetings follow a weekend of confusion which saw Mr Hamilton quit as chairman, and a fans’ pitch protest after Saturday’s game against Hull at The Racecourse.
Speaking on Saturday, David Griffiths told the Leader that he and fellow director David Bennett had accepted Mr Hamilton’s resignation as chairman.
He said he had no word of Mr Hamilton’s apparent back-track

The only course now is to lobby the local council with a view to denying planning permission until AFC Wrexham has been found a new ground acceptable to football league regulations. Until this happens, the land is effectively worthless if it cannot be built on. This is now absolutely vital.

The disgrace and disgust with which Hamilton treats people is absolute. He is actually ENJOYING it. Where is the Football League and Football Association in this? HAS NOTHING BEEN LEARNED SINCE ARCHER & BELLOTTI?

There are many NSCers better placed than me for ideas .... but a show of solidarity of some kind is important ... and if so we muct involved as many clubs as possible.

I was gobsmacked just 4 weeks ago, when we did the Five Live 606 call in thing and Alan Green and everyone who subsequently phoned in from other clubs, had NO IDEA of Wrexham's plight before that evening

What could we do? Any ideas?

Needs to be something visual. How about a 'wear red' to a home game day? We could all wear red in support for the welsh team and show red cards at kick off. This would stand out at Withdean and we could try and get other teams to do the same.

That is a great idea Richie .... let's see what others think before sending it to Wrexham for their feedback

Simple but effective IMHO

Can we maybe look at bringing forward the Fans United day? Even if it means getting all the clubs we can involved. Something along the lines of trying to get as many clubs as possible to send a car or minbus load to one of their home games? Imagine the view if 30 or so clubs send a car load all in colours.

The way its looking at the moment we need to push Fans United forward because there really isn't much time left if Hamilton gets his way.

One other possibility although it is a really really really really long shot would be something along the lines of setting up a fund whereby every fan (obviously we won't get them all but this has to be the targett) who goes to a game on a certain weekend gives just one pound to help the cause. With that money, football fans around the country can then buy the Racecourse and give it back to Wrexham. Unlikely to succeed, but with a lot of advertising/spreading the word it is possible.

Don't wish to sound harsh, but we are there to SUPPORT Wrexham fans. It's frustrating sitting 200-odd miles away feeling helpless, but this must be driven by the Wrexham fans, and we can climb on-board the ideas they may have. By all means suggest things to them, but be careful about trampling through the middle of what they may be doing.

Rest assured, Wrexham will almost certainly be fulfilling their season's fixtures - making January 29 a very important day. A Fans United day needs to be properly co-ordinated. To get anything done before Christmas would be (a) chaos, because (b) it may not be all that well supported - mainly because it is just before Christmas, and all the shopping nonsense that entails.

If we can maximise the efforts for Jan 29, it will send a clear, unambiguous message to Hamilton, to Wrexham, to their council and to the football authorities about what is happening. That will be more effective than a potential botch-job.

Of course, we are working on an assumption that neither Wrexham nor Doncaster make it to the third round, and they both have reasonably easy first round ties.

Latest development:

Press Release : Monday 1st November, 2004 21:45pm

********
Representatives of Wrexham Supporters Trust met today with Mr Alex Hamilton, the majority shareholder and landlord of Wrexham Football Club.

The Trust is seeking to acquire Mr Hamiltons 78% shareholding in Wrexham Football Club and also the freehold of the Racecourse ground.

Rob Grifiths, Vice Chairman of the Trust stated,

"We had a very constructive meeting with Mr Hamilton today. We met for almost 2 hours and presented him with our offer, which would involve us working with partners to acquire the football club and the Racecourse ground. We believe that our proposal, if accepted, would safeguard the future of the football club.
Mr Hamilton has agreed to give our proposals his full consideration and we will talk again in a few days time. We agreed that the current situation at the club is very serious but the Trust remains optimistic that we can reach an agreement to safeguard the future of the club and the ground".

Hamilton's finally made no secret of his ultimate desire!

His comments in tonights Evening Leader have made me and many other fans hopping mad.

Basically though it just strengthens our desire to fight this evil bastard and beat him.

Funny enough a lot of us are starting to feel a bit more optimistic that we can turn the corner but we still have a hell of a lot of work to do.

Our only home league game in November is against Bristol City on the 20th. In reality we need to be looking at 6000 home fans for that at least! Plus if Bristol City bring around 500 then that's a respectable crowd.

Ideally for me a Fans United day needs to be almost every home game now as we need to raise money to pay the players and the bills and raise enough money for the Trust to buy out Hamilton.

We are open to any ideas and offers of help, I just appreciate what you fellas are doing for us at the moment, we are starting to get a bit more organised but there still aren't enough of us Wrexham fans online doing things in a co-ordinated fashion.

I think we are relying on other teams fans to push us that bit further and come up with fresh ideas.

Just received this email from Wrexham ....

Big News-THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE COMMENT ON SITUATION~~

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So this is what Wrexham Football club mean to the football league...

Dave Davies of the Wrexham official Supporters Club has just rang me up, absolutly fuming....

He rang the Football League, armed with the Leader article trying to see what they thought of whats going on and what can be done about people like Hamilton purposly running down football league clubs.

Apparantly the person he spoke to "knew all about the situation with Wrexham FC" yet when quizzed about what they could do to help/advise us, he said "Football clubs are private limited companies, and governed by company law" - then Dave posed the question "Hamilton has resigned as chairman and is now trying to get back on the board and kick the existing directors off, can your much publicised "fit and proper persons act" stop him?"

The answer he got was incredible:- "Alex Hamilton has done nothing wrong. This act only applys to people who have broken the law, he has not"

Dave then stated:- "well obviously this act is not tough enough if people like Hamilton cant be stopped from taking over football clubs". and was anwered with "well, we are looking to update it all the time, but nothing can be done here".

The final question (straw): "Don't you have a duty to your member clubs?"

The football league guy, stuttered, repeating that there was "nothing he could do"

Basically the impression he got was that of not giving a damn. Again another example of Wrexham fans treated with contempt. Basically the football league are trying to fob us off here and its not on....

So Right!.....sadly he didnt get the name of this disgrace of a man, yet the number is 01772 325800

It's just been suggested to me that we could go around the league grounds when we are away and do a bucket collection.

This is a cracking idea.

We've only got one home league game in November now so it's worth a try.

I can't make it to Luton on saturday but we need as much as we can get now.

Thanks to Seagull Nic for putting my e mails up on here :D

Asset stripping is a national scandal. It goes beyond football.

It applies to very property developer who buys up a business closes it down and sell off the land for retail (most money) or for housing.

Why do they do it? Money !

Housing land is with the current high density allowed is worth up to four times as much as business premises and retail a whole lot more than that.

This is is Prescott's bag. He knows the score. If he wants some brownie points, he could come up with a public statement to this effect.

Then he can give instructions to Planning Offices to forbid Planning Permission in these cases, or at least until a suitable relocation site is available!
