Would I be happy to be in Championship again? Genuinely tough question. What's the big gold prize to be fought tooth and nail for? Promotion back into the EPL. Obviously. We're already there. Why assume we'd just Bounce Straight Back Up? Every club says that. They have to. Them's the rules. IMHO far better to be a nice tidy well-run unthreatening club in the EPL than a nice tidy well-run unthreatening club in the Championship. Unless, of course, you run that well-run club. You don't want those twickers-style customers deserting in droves. That would only leave you with those troublesome fans

For actual entertainment and winning more games, it would be good. BUT we would lose our star players, and to have to go through another re-build to get to where we currently are might be exhausting!

  • Getting relegated stings all summer.
  • The championship has its own cloak of invisibility and you have to sit patiently and wait for the media to come and pat you on the head in a slightly patronising way.
  • Everyone assumes their club will spring straight back, despite plenty of examples to the contrary.
  • A downward spiral is really bloody difficult to pull out of and the best algorithms in the world can't do anything about, no thanks I don't fancy it.
  • Some of our massive fans will do what they have done in the past and slink off only to return when there is a sniff of glory. On a cold and dismal Tuesday night, they can deflect some of the icy wind and their annoying habits can at least distract you from the pain of watching dismal football.
At some point it might be our best option, but I think we are still a long way from having to contemplate this.

As other's have said....why stop at relegation?

Imagine there's no football
It's easy if you try
No comfy seat below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all those people
Livin' for the Today programme?
Ah.

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
Imagine there's no football
Well, that woudn't be much fun

Would it, eh? Eh?

Just read thread title NO.

You also need to read the first line of the actual post! NOBODY wants us to be relegated but would you be happy once the next season started in the Championship was the complete question!

Anyone who thinks being back in the Championship would be great would do well to take a look at Huddersfield

I've been saying this for many seasons. Would hate the season of getting relegated but loved the championship. Tough league but a lot of fun and very easy to get to away games

Once the disappointment of relegation and a summer had gone by? Hypothetical for at least another season.

I’d be gutted to go down but as long as the club was being run on the same lines as it is now I am pretty sure I’d be happy watching us win more often than lose and sometimes put teams to the sword. Would it be as good as Europe, no, but watching the Albion win and be a top dog in the division takes some beating imo, whichever division it is.

Maybe YOU’D walk away? I am sure quite a few would

It's the television coverage which is much easier to watch on Peacock in the US than trying to find streams on the internet.

I was happy with it when we were there but going back now seems like no fun at all. Though most of us would stick around if it ever happens.

For those who may occasionally get disllusioned with the PL, Sussex has some decent non-league options for those who want to escape VAR for an afternoon and have a beer while they enjoy a bit of honest hoofball.

Absolutely no way. It is almost impossible to run a club sustainably and be competitive in that league, would be a nightmare to get out of, would massively dent our attractiveness to new talent, and if we did manage to get promoted again we would likely be relegated straight away as the gulf in class continues to grow.

No, and don’t be silly. Southampton were relegated last season and their fans are not happy being in the Championship - the only possible benefit would be an instant return to the Premier League.

Did you love the Hypia season? This thread is full of promotion memories if we went the way of Stoke it would be depressing and shit.

It's an interesting question but I'd have to say NO at this time.

If you had asked me the same question when we were knocking about just above the relegation zone under Hughton - then probably Yes.

Now we would lose nearly all our players (we can't even hang on to the best of them when we finish top six - so no chance of retaining them in the Championship).

I'm not sure that is entirely logical.

If you finish 6th, everyone wants to poach your players from you.

If you finish 20th, I'd imagine nobody wants (most of) them.

I think @Jeremiah meant we wouldn’t be able to afford them and players would want to leave.

I raised the same point in my post above - the loss of revenue cf to what we get in the PL would mean it would be very hard to sustain the same quality of players we have now - there’s always a movement too of ex-Premiership players from relegated sides wanting to continue to play Premiership Football.
