[Albion] Would have been a near perfect window if we’d brought in a striker

Enter Locadia your time has come

I REALLY hope he’s going to get another chance, there IS a player in there if Potter can get his head in the right place. I’ll be disappointed if we don’t at least try and fit him in before we ship him off to the States.

He’s flying out to the states on Sunday for his medical

I reckon we will be 99% of neutrals favourites for the drop now

Well that’s ruined my week, I am so concerned about what neutrals, most of whom know feck all about the Albion, think

I'll bite. Cenk Tosun. He went to Palace so he can't be that fussy.

A player that Everton have shipped out, to Palace who pay ridiculous wages. He has a one in five record for a team 3 places above us, and they were happy to let him go to a team who are now on the same number of points as them. All his other games were at a lower level.

You’re sure this is somebody who is better than what we already have? You’re just falling for the ‘we should sign a striker for the sake of it’ nonsense.

I’d love to hear your reasoning as to why he could be our 20 goal man.

Am I sure he's better? No. Could he be. Maybe.

In the main, I was just gently querying your rather odd statement that there's no strikers available to a club like ours. I didn't realise they had to come with guarantees. As you were.

So would you spend millions of pounds of your own money on somebody who ‘may be better than what we have?’

My point is this ridiculous notion that we should just spunk money on someone for the sake of it. We shouldn’t ever, ever sign anyone who isn’t going to improve on what we have. If the club and recruitment team are confident that there was nobody available who would improve us, then that’s good enough for me. I’d much rather that than us panic buy another dud at the last minute.

In my opinion, keeping Dunk during the transfer window may prove to be the best bit of 'business' we have done.

We were always going to keep Dunk during the Jan window. Even if the speculation wasn't just made up rubbish, club still wouldn't of sold Dunk until season was over.

Million pound loan fee plus a 100k a week, apparently.

Murray will save us. Should be like a new signing (having played so few minutes this season, so should be fresh) assuming GP uses him. Lampty looks a great kid for the future - suspect he's been brought in to develop in the U23's for a season or two. Mooy was a good bit of business and hopefully Mac can hit the ground running when he returns to us in mid February. Still very positive about the remainder of the season. We only need 5 wins from 14 games so more than enough time. Today though is a must win game and hopefully will be the first of the five needed.

We'll be fine, I agree that Glenn Murray is the man.

I'm a little concerned that both Gyokeres and Mlakar are out on loan, and would rather we had a 4th choice striker available, just in case.

Decent window, I think. Mooy, Alexis, Lampty and keeping Dunk all good boys of business. Yes I’d have liked a striker, but so would every other club.

These people who bang on about a ‘proven Premier League striker’- can anybody name one that we would have a realistic chance of getting? None of our rivals are going to sell us a striker (and if they did then that would surely ring alarm bells?) so that leaves old mercenaries looking for a final payday, or someone up and coming.

No ‘proven Premier League striker’ is going to come to us, especially in January. Our only chance is getting one from abroad or the Championship and hoping they work out, and if there weren’t any available that would actually improve us, then what are we supposed to do? Magic one?

Good post Commander.

Its also interesting to note the Sky chappie said Bowen demanded 80 k a week in wages + a 20 million transfer fee. So its not some much being able to afford a striker, its more the affordability of one, wages, damaging team morale would other (Brighton) players also expect pay rise etc.

And for what ? For a player who has never played in the Premier League !!

I really don't think people realize how difficult it is to get a good quality Premier League ready striker in. Not just someone who might be ok, Just to keep the fans happy.

Yes this. Once again some astonishingly needy posts on here. We NEVER do much business in January and if the right striker wasn't available then we've done the right thing by keeping Muzza. Not one of the grizzlers would be able to tell us what striker they would have signed, what price and wages they'd have agreed on and when they'd have closed the deal.

Or maybe we could all do it. Yes, in fact, I would have miraculously signed Giroud for £5 million, paid him 10 grand a week and made him Duke of Sussex the second that title actually became available. How hard can it be?

This. In a blue and white striped onesie, enjoying a steaming hot mug of 'so, shut the **** up'.

Did i miss us rejecting a bid for Dunk in this window?

I’m not sure we can class keeping our players as good business, if no one has bid for them!

Yes you're right !

Great to know there wont be a bid for Dunk. Because everyone already knows we won't sell him.

Just as a little aside. How do you know if a bid was made for Dunk or not?

From what I have seen of Lampty (and I have seen all his minutes on the tellybox) he's come here to get regular game time, not go out on loan at Luton or play with the u23s. He could have done that staying at Chelsea.

I'd like to share your optimism about Murray but the least times I saw him play he'd lost his touch and it seemed his legs had gone. I have a fey dream that maybe he'll start today and do to sham what he did a couple of seasons ago, and I would be thrilled to have my general assessment proven wrong.

Apart from that, very happy with the window, and more hopeful of survival than in the minutes and hours after our last debacle.

Here
Mooy is a good signing but was already at the club until the end of the season
Wonderkid Lamptey ? Based on what ? Do tell me as he has played only one Premier league match. Basically another untried kid with potential. Heard that before ?
Alexis is already our player and another who hasn't kicked a ball at Premier level. Until we see him it's a gamble.

Give me a striker than this lot anyday. As i said Mooy is already here. Dress it up how you like but we have done poorly when we needed quality at this moment in time. We opted for gambles.
Thank god for Brexit because it would have been a bloody miserable end to Jan.

3/10

Miserable bugger.
