I thought our crew made a fair amount of noise yesterday. Shame about the others.

Certainly echoed well under the roof. And it was nice to see us win for a change.

Only problem is, I wish I didn't have to keep posing in the new shirt all the way to the game for strangers to look at the "lovely piping", and "ohh, the airtex is good", etc.... I had being so fashionable. :jester:

My View on the Game

1st Half

1. Kuipers - Looked very erratic charging out of goal for balls his defenders should/could have dealt with. This eventually led to him giving away the penalty. Well done on the psyching out on the penalty though. Kicking looked good.

2. Reid - Was involved in most of our influential moves in the fast half. Overlapped Cox and Biakolo well and put in some good crosses. Could have been better defensively.

3. Mayo - Looked sharp and defensively sound. Got forward well and was involved in one or two moves. Should have shot instead of passing to Frutos on one occasion.

4. Chamberlain - Very unimpressive. He bottled several challenges and lost posession easily. Passing was okay but seemed too lightweight for the role he was given.

5. Butters - Didn't look the rock he has been for the most part of 3 seasons now. Missed a header which put us in trouble. Looked generally off the pace.

6. Mendy - Showed plenty of energy but was defensively shakey. Was dispossed on one occasion and lost his man when they hit the crossbar. Very unimpressive.

7. Cox - Involved in some good moves with Reid and CKR but ultimately played the wrong pass or made the wrong run. Was outpaced by the Crawley defence when the ball was knocked over the top to him. Not enough skill to make up for his lack of stature. Made a very poor tackle on Crawley L/B.

8. Hammond - Did everything right. Good range of passing and got forward when needed. Shooting was a bit off but took his penalty well. Pissed off CKR by taking it because he'd told Biakolo he could have it.

9. Kazim-Richards - Still a long way to go I think. He seems to have beefed up and looks more like a centre-forward but his shooting leaves a lot to be desired. Linked up well with Reid and Cox but was too easily shielded off the ball after a great through ball from Biakolo.

10. Biakolo - Had a good game. Aside from a a good run into the penalty area, which resulted in him winning the penalty he looked great in the air, winning several knock downs. Dropped deep when necessary and even played on the right wing towards the end of the half putting in a good cross. Played an excellent ball to CKR.

11. Frutos - Didn't look the playmaker and goalscorer McGhee has been talking about. Was involved in some good moves with Mayo but generally lacked pace and failed to beat his man. Can't remember any crosses from him. His free-kick routine needs work.

2nd Half

1. Henderson - Had relatively little to do but made a very good save to tip over a free-kick late on.

2. Hart - Dare I say battled hard and worked well with Brittain down the right flank. Had their left winger in his pocket all half.

3. Bagayoko - Had little to do but did it all well. Took on Rogers towards the end of the half and his pace was great to see. Managed to get to a ball creeping out for a goalkick and pull it back. Impressive.

4. El-Abd - Strong in the air and played some good balls forward to the right wing.

5. Lynch - Again strong. No noticeable defensive errors.

6. Williams - Didn't really seem to get that involved in the game. Fairly good passing. Worth another look.

7. Brittain - Very impressive. Constantly making runs even if they were'nt picked out. Put in some balls Seb Carole could only dream of and was involed nearly every attack in the half. Looks like he really wants it.

8. Carpenter - Involved in great moves with Robinson and Brittain. Through balls were particuarly good and looks a better prospect on set-pieces than Carole did. Tad unfit I think.

9. Revell - Made some intelligent runs to lose his marker. Took his goal well after Loft missed the ball. Linked up a couple of times with Robinson but would've liked to see more. Not much of a presence in the air though.

10. Robinson - Played like the player he is hyped to be. Terrorised the defense made May look a clown and time his runs to perfection. Took both goals well. Praying he can play the same way in League 1.

11. Loft - Sorry Doug but probably the poorest player on the pitch. Was a non-existant threat down the left and should have scored instead of Revell but tried to be clever with his finish. Hopefully it was an off day.

Long way to go I know but on that display this would be my starting line-up.

Henderson G
Hart RB
El-Abd CB
Lynch CB
Mayo LB
Brittain RW
Carpenter CM
Reid CM
Frutos LW
Robinson S
Revell S

Subs
Kuipers
Bagayoko
Hammond
Butters
Biakolo

That looks a pretty well balanced team jonny, good defence, experienced midfield but young and fairly untried forwards. Hopefully with that line up the forwards would get better service than they did last season, I think that if they did and the goals started to fly in it could become the partnership we have been dreaming about for longer than I care to remember.

Well the kit looked OK!!

On a serious not I was not overly impressed with the trialists on the first half, not sure Mendy is what we need, him and Butters did not seem to work all that well. I suspect the striker will get another week.

The trialists in the second half seemed to be more promising, Brittain (sp) looked half decent and was willing to take people on and it was nice to see a specialist left back play in each half. Lynch looked a real prospect at centre back and him and Hinsh could well form a decent pairing. The trialist in midfield had something about his game, but am not sure how he will survive in this league full of cloggers as he is a tad small.

Something that does need addressing is the right back area, as with the exception of Paul Hinshlewood we do not have a specialist right back. Reid did not have a great half and Gary Hart is simply not a right back.

Not going to get over excited at Robinson scoring, but Revell had a good start. A bit of strength there and you never know.

However it was only Worthing. Aldershot will be in theory more of a test.

Harty isn't a right back, but I am convinced that MM is trying to convert him into one as it won't matter so much as his pace fades with age (assuming it does), whilst it would also be useful to have him as an overlapping player with the right winger. Does that make sense?

Last season when he played there he did not look all that comfortable. The fact Hart will do whatever job is asked of him is a great asset, however it does not disguise the fact he is not a right back.

I think he has all the assets of a decent rightback but what he lacks is experience in the position to learn the positional discipline, that was lacking at times in his performances last season and caused us problems at times.

But I wouldn't underestimate the ability of this footballer to learn that rapidly - he at the time of his career when he is soaking up a lot of knowledge about the game.

Looks like a really good team, and one which is capable of the play-offs. However i think we still need that experienced target man, who has the composure and experience to be a regular goalscorer. Often young forwards are eratic and not particulally consistent. If we can get Frutos and Brittain on thw ings putting in good crosses then i think we're onto a winner - with Hammond making the late runs, as he did lat season.

Seb Carole's agent has certainly got some decent players on his books - apart from Mendy! He is certainly not up to League 1 standard.
