Now its Chappell's turn, that's a majestic on drive for four off Underwood's first ball and that's delicate, a little dab to third man and they run three. Smith nabs the strike with a nurdle to leg

Stokes is coming off and the skipper's going to have a blast.

Hammond's first ball is quick and swings into Smith, he has to be alert to keep that out. And that's a beauty, it catches the edge and flies over cover for a single. Chappell spoils a tidy over with a push to wide mid-on for two.

Australia 260-5 Smith 64 Chappell 14 overs 72

Underwood finally puts the brakes on and it's the first maiden for some time,

Hammond is building up a bit of pace now and beats Chappell a couple of times before he finally gets driven off the back foot for two

Australia 262-5 Smith 64 Chappell 16 overs 74

Smith obviously feels disgusted with himself for the last maiden and clips the ball wide of mid-on for two. He runs the ball to third man for a single and Chappell gets his feet to a slightly over-pitched ball from Underwood and that's two more.

Hammond drops short and Smith hammers that away for four and takes a single off the last ball

Australia 272-5 Smith 72 Chappell 18, overs 76 Australia need fewer than a hundred to win

Underwood again and Smith pushes another single. Chappell is looking to score quickly but only gets a single.

Hammond is a bit tighter this over and restricts Chappell to two.

Australia 276-5 Smith 73 Chappell 21, overs 78

Underwood hurries through his over and Smith scores a single from it

It's still Hammond and Smith scores two before shutting up shop for the over.

And that's tea

Australia 279-5 Smith 76 Chappell 21, overs 80

It's new ball time and Anderson has first crack with the cherry, Smith is pacing on the crease and cracks Anderson's first ball for four.. Thats was over-pitched. This one drifts onto his legs and that's four more - that's the worst possible place to bowl to Smith. He gets on top of the final ball of the over and that's helped into the covers for a single.

Larwood's on next and that's seriously quick - Smith can't get over it but it flies just out of Prior's reach for four more and that lobs up in the air but just over Gower's head in the gully, that's another single. Chappell digs out a yorker that goes past Cook at short leg. That was little more than a push but it got Chappell two runs

Australia 295-5 Smith 90 Chappell 23, overs 82

Anderson's bowls a beauty to Smith, it jags back, completely deceives him and catches an inside edge - it misses the bails by a whisker but Smith can't gather and that's four more. Smith plays back to Anderson and gets the single to bring up the 300. And that's a superb on-drive by Chappell, Compton can't get near it and that's another four - Australia are racing along here

Larwood again, with Smith needing five for his ton. He steps back to play his favoured on drive and it strikes him full on - there's a massive appeal and Aleem Dar has given it. Smith immediately reviews and they're going upstairs.

I think Smith thought he hit it. The ball's good and the impact is in line. They're checking hotspot, there's the faint trace of a blip but that's not very conclusive, nothing on Snicko. And the ball is hitting - the umpire's decision is good.
Smith has to walk off, shaking his head

Australia 304-6 Smith lbw b Larwood 95

Gilchrist looks like he wants to get on with things and pushes for two runs to get off the mark. He then runs the ball to long leg for a single

Australia 307-6 Chappell 23 Gilchrist 3, overs 84

Anderson's beginning to make it seam around a bit now and he has Gilchrist groping for the ball. He's copped that though - that's a four through mid wicket and the last ball of the over beats him all ends up.

Larwood to Chappell and that's cut to the point boundary but it's picked up by Larwood running round - two more to Chappell. And that's a single. Gilchrist has a dart at Larwood but only manages to pick up two.

Australia 317-6 Chappell 26 Gilchrist 9, overs 86

Anderson to Chappell, he's content to work in singles and give Gilchrist the strike. And that's a massive six from Gilchrist - it wasn't that bad a ball but it's timed beautifully over mid-wicket's head. He tries the shot again but that's held its line, there's a nick and Prior swallows it

Australia 324-7 Gilchrist c Prior b Anderson 15

Miller takes two off Anderson's next ball and sees out the over.

Chappell is completely unflustered by Larwood and drives him for four through the covers and running one to long leg.

Australia 331-7 Chappell 32 Miller 2

Anderson is bowling well now, Chappell is looking to get him away but can't manage it - that's a rare maiden
Miller is right in line against Larwood and plays him solidly, no risks here until the last ball and that's driven firmly through mid wicket for four

Australia 335-7 Chappell 32 Miller 6, overs 90

Australia need 30 to win and there are still 23 overs left. They can get them in singles

And that's what Chappell is looking to do, he runs it down to third man and just jogs the one. Miller's not bothering about singles though, he hammers this through the covers for four

And it's a change of bowling from the Nursery End, Botham is on instead of Larwood. Chappell pushes for a single and it's Miller facing. He goes for a big one, but it's up in the air ... lands safely though, splitting Stokes and Compton. Miller's cracked this one though, it's travelling like a rocket but WHAT A CATCH!

Stokes flings himself full length a mid-off picking the ball a few inches off the ground - that ball had been hammered. Miller can't believe it - that looked like four all the way. He slowly trudges off and Warne comes in

Australia 343-8 Miller c Stokes b Botham 12

Botham is exchanging a few words with Warne. The first ball is slighty short and Warne hammers that to the boundary

Bowler and batsman exchange a few more words. Botham in and he bowls him, middle stump, That jagged back in the batsman and he was beaten all ends up. The pressure on Thomson now but he sees off the last ball with little problem

Australia 347-9 Warne b Botham 4, Chappell 34 Thomson 0

Underwood is coming on to replace Anderson, he can keep things tighter. The field is spread out for Chappell though, there's a single whenever he wants it. He takes one off the third ball. Thomson has three to face.

Is he going to block? Is he hell? He fires the ball back down the wicket, that looked like golf shot but they take two. He blocks the next one though, one ball to survive.

He shuffles across his stumps and is hit on the pad - there's a massive appeal and Billy Bowden has given it out!

They're going upstairs though

There's no bat, impact in line and hitting off-stump. The decision stands, Thomson is out and England have won by 14 runs

Chappell is on his haunches, Thomson has his head in his hands and gets a consoling pat from Prior

The England players are jubilant - that's 1-1 in the series
