The one earlier was offside and going for the ball, therefore off side and no need for the ref to view it, it’s not subjective, he was just offside and absolutely no need for the ref to view it on the screen.

But we have seen in this WC when a player hasn't touched the ball it has been left to the on field ref to make a decision on if he had become active in his opinion. The act of becoming active but not actually touching the ball is subjective.

The EPL allow the useless refs in an office to make this call. therefore removing the subjective part of the offside law.

VAR was brought in to help the on field ref with defined actions such as ball over the line (GL tech) and whether a player is in an offside position. If he then touches the ball, again that is defined, if he becomes active but doesn't touch the ball that is subjective and the decision should be made on field. The EPL have it wrong. It's the same if a player is deemed to block the view of the keeper while being in an offside position, it is the on field ref to decide, even in the EPL we see this.

Yes. And there’s some nonsense about penalty shoot outs before group games to ensure no teams collude to draw the final game and put the third team in the group out.

Its actually impossible in a 3-team group for two teams to play-out a 0-0 draw in the final game and both go through.

But there are obviously collusion possibilities, e.g. when a 1-0 suits both sides

(unless they both beat the other team in which case its a moot point anyway, or there's some shenanigans about yellow cards breaking the tie)

hang on, you're saying that the rule needs "adjusting" because said rule was handled correctly?

If the rule is correct, everyone except morons understand it, then why should we adjust it? VAR did the 100% right thing, it was handled immensely and that should be enough.

Simply because it would be a damn sight easier to adjudicate without the need for VAR. You don't need to have a bird's eye view to see if the ball is touching the line. You absolutely do if you have to determine if a part the ball is inside the line if you draw a horizontal line down from that point.

Would it really? I imagine at different angles we'd all be debating if the ball had gone out or not even if you preferred rule were in place. Is it touching, is it really?? etc etc.

He's also playing brilliantly as a right wing back and not the conventional winger as he does with us. He defended really well too, cut off the ball many times and had Ferran Torres in his pocket.

Then broke with pace when he got it.

He was excellent last night, we're lucky to have him.
