The most curious thing..
Keep Sterling and Grealish away from the team.
I don't think Sterling will be back after his house was robbed by "armed intruders". I wouldn't.

Obviously when you're being pressed a lot you look for a ball over the top. Dunk does it all the time, and Maguire does it for England. The keepers to it too. And they don't need the manager to tell them when to do it, it's always part of the plan. Not that any of our goals were from a long ball over the top.
That’s my view. GS didn’t get a tactical change message out.

According to Dirty Barrt most people took my advice and watched the game from home, hope people will be just as sensible next Saturday. It looks like a fantastic game, Gareth has got the boys firing again and we are a match for anyone but I think whoever wins this Brazil should and will be the ultimate winners.
You’re as topical as Bernard Manning

Well yes, you might well have! So, which hues of skin tone have the inaliable right to put make up on to change the colour of their faces? I'm sure the Senegalise fans are doing it for fun, with no racism or hatred towards anyone - why on earth should anyone be offended? No reasonable tolerant person would be.
So, it's OK for some but not for others - that's hardly good liberalism, equality and tolerance.

P.S. As a kind and gentle soul, who looks to love and respect all my brothers and sisters on this earth, I fully expect, and am immune to, storms of vitriol from those that are actually less tolerant than I.

The ref is playing well
I must say I thought the ref had an excellent game. Not often we can praise refs - but can't remember a poor decision, he didn't fall for any diving; just told them to get on with it - and I saw him being pretty shouty at a few of them. Lett he game flow as well. More refs like that please.

A thought which actually occurred earlier, is tonight’s game the first ever December fixture for the England mens team?

The curse of ITV has been lifted!
The France game is also on ITV, so let's hope so.

For the Southgate knockers - did I hear the commentator right in saying that this is the first time in our history that we have won a knockout-round match at three successive tournaments?

His hold up play really stood out for me tonight. I have not always been his biggest fan but I am beginning to see all the work and what he adds to the team.
I imagine that playing a false 9 is not always a glamorous role for a world class striker but playing against a team like Senegal whose dogged marking and commitment to shape can make it difficult to create space, Kane’s role was crucial tonight - he not only drew defenders to him, creating more space for our left and right wing to get high but also, playing relatively deep, created his own attacking space to run into between midfield and Senegal’s back - Kane was a big part of why Senegal was looking very ragged in the second half imo.

France? - From my armchair! - continue as we did tonight, being patient, building up from the back (without silly giveaways), play deep, invite a high press and get them on the triangle passing breaks or long balls over the top. Hopefully, by the second half it will have worn them down a bit - then open it up and keep Henderson and Bellingham as starters. As far as Mbappe, keep Walker on a starting position too - probably one of the few defenders who wouldn’t be shy of taking him on and stick with Foden - he’s grown exponentially into this WC.

Question for the tacticians. How do we beat France?

Clone Bellingham? Double up on Mbappe?
more of the same, though less sloppy passing. dont focus too much on Mbeppe, Walker will match for pace, have to respect their other threats.

been trying to put a finger on whats different about England and i think its we convert chances. previous teams would have fluffed those three goals, we seem more clinical.

Far more relaxed players, not feeling the ‘weight of the nation’ nor the silly club cliques of Chelsea-Liverpool-ManU players blanking each other in the camp.

France won’t win back to back World Cups. I think I high scoring match. 4-2 England.

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Raheem Sterling flying home after a break-in at this home.
It wasn’t just a break in, it was armed robbery. His poor family.
Dirty low lifes, knowing he was away from home, traumatising his family.

I'm all in on England. Have been from the off. Unfortunately though I don't share your assessment of Walker matching Mbappe for pace. A few years ago, maybe? Now? No chance! Mbappe is the fastest player I've ever seen over the first couple of yards. It's insane pace! and Walker couldn't even out pace Ndiaye ( I think it was) today on a one on one.

The upside is that bizarrely even Matty Cash got the better of Mbappe a few times today. So there's hope, but we'll still have to double up on him at times or we're toast.

Is there anything we can do to influence the result of the game against France?

Smash up a cross-channel ferry? Insult their vast range of local cheeses?
