I couldn't give a shit about the England team, feel no connection with them at all and I dislike all the hype, pomp, vulgar drinking culture and nationalistic pride that goes with every ultimately disappointing World Cup run.

I tend to follow Ireland where both my parents are from.

I'll support England, but won't be joining the masses of people who somehow think we will win the World Cup.

Obnviously that is my country so I will support them. Probably have their best chance of success next year but not guaranteed as somebody will f..k it up.

you're, not I had far more fun and interest in following Australia's oddyssey at the last world cup than England's inevitible penalty capitulation. I'll be supporting both again this time around.....

I'll be supporting them and hope they win (don't think they will though). I must say though that England don't have the emotional pull on me that the Albion have.

The one fun thing about this world cup is that it will be first one that my kids will be aware of - it will be exciting for them (and my first world cup was in 1966 so maybe that's an omen).

Not so much that I won't be depressed, just that I won't be surprised.

If only we were as good as we think we are.

it gets less and less fun, but you have got to do it havent you. no more union jacks, no more tear gas, no more 'Shame' headlines, just another day out for the ticket buying masses for who it could just as easily be Coldplay at the O2.

Listening to Gerrard spout insincere bullshit and watching them all try to force tears out of their faces in an attempt to con the public they give a f***, all the rubbish, but you will still care. you will f***ing not enjoy much of it but you will still care.

I will be holed up in the pub with a few like minded souls for a month, while all my other English born neighbours drive by beeping their horns with flags of african countries they have never visited attached to their aerials.

we might get to finals in the f***ing rugby, and you might get OBEs for beating f***ing colonials at cricket for the first time in a generation, but this is what its really about.

Possibly the most ridiculous thread ever to appear oN NSC. I shall be roaring with every sinure of my body in the hope that our brave boys bring back the Cup, and so should everyone else. Shame on you for starting such a nonsense thread.

I love football but..........
I can't stand the hype about England,
I can't stand the the fact that they measure the World Cup by how many teams have players in the Premiership,
I can't stand tossers like Ashley Cole, Ferdinand and Lampard in the celebrity England XI,
I can't stand former footballers taking shite on TalkPremiersport,

so, no, I won't be bothering with it.

Seem to speak to a lot of people these days that are that f***ed off with how shit England have been for the past 43 years, they've just given up on supporting the national team.
Just wondering if i was imagining it or not..

Exactly why is a Manure/Chelski glory hunter posting on an Albion website. I take it that's what you are as based on your theory, if your team are bereft of success you switch allegience.

Also, not sure where you did your survey, probably just in your own head, but most people I know, irrespective of the '43' years will still follow their national team.

I couldn't give a shit about the England team, feel no connection with them at all and I dislike all the hype, pomp, vulgar drinking culture and nationalistic pride that goes with every ultimately disappointing World Cup run.

I tend to follow Ireland where both my parents are from.

So, will you be following France instead? Also, I assume the Irish didn't drink during their 2002 cup run. And every March 17th sobriety is the name of the game!

I'll support England, but won't be joining the masses of people who somehow think we will win the World Cup.

It's not about thinking we will win but the fact is that we have a chance of winning. Most winners need some luck on the way to the final but if our top players can avoid injury then we have a good chance. (At least a better chance than Ireland have got!).

Look at Spain, they hadn't won anything for 40 odd years up until last year. Now they are the talk of the town.

Of course I'll be supporting England. Can't really vote for any of the options as I WILL be depressed when we lose but I won't be crying my eyes out.

However like others I can't wait, I love these football finals when England are in them and the whole country goes mental. Hopefully the recent defeats against Brazil and Spain will have dampened the more ridiculous expectations and we can all just enjoy the ride. And you never know, if we can get to the semi-final with all the pressure on our opponents ... well, stranger things have happened.

That all sounds about right.
