The bloke will get a 5 year club ban, the club have on numerous occasions when a conviction has not been forthcoming invoked their own form of justice.

How many others do you know that have included their charitable work in a similar case and subsequently got off in court?

They haven't got off for including it in the case, it was used as proof, or evidence, that the person was of good character and therefor the incident likely to be a one of. More a plea for leniancy.

Is there something wrong with people trying to be good? Obviously not, so I think people here are missing the point a bit.

I was of course joking due to your desperation for the subject to be dropped.

I am just trying to be fair to both parties.

My Dad had a lodger in the late 1980's who was an avid Brighton fan , he got into "trouble" at The Goldstone and was given a lifetime ban. AFAIK the ban is still in effect.

He used the REMF thing as a mitigating factor in the sentencing, not as part of the case itself. People will chuck in any old crap to get themselves off.

I once dealt with a horrible individual who had punched an innocent passer by in the face one night, for no other reason than because she was pissed and trying to show her mates how hard she was. The victim suffered a fractured cheekbone and an understandable loss of confidence as a result.

The perpetrator firstly denied the offence, and then, when found guilty, attempted to use the fact that she was pregnant and hopeful of securing council accommodation- she was FIFTEEN years old at the time- as evidence of her turning her life around and settling down. Now call me an old stick in the mud, but I'm not convinced getting pregnant at fifteen, still drinking, and moving out of your family home for a council flat is a sign of a reformed character, let alone any indication of settling down.

But that is the sort of stuff people will chuck before the courts in the hope of a sympathy vote. It may be- to your eyes and mine- irrelevant to the offence, but if it means getting a lesser punishment, then who can blame them for laying it on? Seems to work most of the time...

I have read the Argus report. I must say the incident that happened seems to be on the very mild end of things that happened that night. I guess the person involved was swept away with it all, a few pints in his Belly, with his mates and provocation form the Palace fans. It was not a wise thing to do, he admitted that " a moment of madness " but I for one am not going to throw any stones " Glass Houses " springs to mind. The fact he used his good work for the REMF is his right as a plea for good character. He is fully allowed to do this without anyones permission. I also think it would outrageous if the club banned him for this " moment of madness " and concentrated on banning real hooligans.

I've raised more than that for REMF, but if the police / club had CCTV footage of me throwing missiles at away fans I'd be expecting a ban.

Which one are you then Smashy or Nicey

Ooh, You absolute hypocrite. How do you marry up that statement with this:

Come on who are we trying to kid ?. The BHAFC " fans " who were at Brighton Station drinking in the pubs where there for one reason, a chance of a ruck with CPFC fans.

Respective " fans " were out from early afternoon on the lash looking for some action ".

We have seen footage of the moment CPFC fans walked up Queens Road and the BHAFC were giving it large and throwing pints and other stuff at them, and the Police. I agree the Police could have done a more sensible route and in a way it could be argued it was entrapment but any " fan " who was there at 6pm knowing it would kick off and was stupid enough to fall for this, well , live and learn.

Well done for trawling that out. How have I been a hypocrit ? I have said what he did was WRONG but in the scheme of the events that night it was pretty mild. Have you never done anything you regretted after a few beers or are you perfection personified ? It sounds like you are.

Get the Argus if you want. I can't see the point in " outing " him.

Take into account that this aggression was associated with football support.
You are all football supporters, and to the general person who doesn't like football - it adds fuel to their fire when they say "typical football hooligan".
None of us wants to be represented by that behaviour or those types of action.

I can't belittle his contribution to REMF as a cheap aside - it's a worthy cause and rightly added to a character reference in this case (it seems so), but since he's associated his act with our club and the sport in general, it does seem as though he has risked his future associations with that.
The question then ought to be why shouldn't he get a ban from football for a while?
