Why oh why would we sack him?

The bookies had us down to finish 19th this season we are currently 14th with opportunities of games in hand to be have a crack at the play offs.

So why sack him?

He is currently overachieving.

sorry al

the phone in tonight has had 100% people wanting him OUT, so thought it would be interesting to gain opinion, especially as we WON yet people seem to be as negative as ever

Reason enough for me not to listen to the phone-in, not that I'd need another one. I'm sure the phone-in serves a purpose, but when it's right after the game, I've yet to work out what that is, aside from listening to people I'd rather cross the street to avoid have a rant at anything that moves... Not for me, danke.

The time immediately after the match is when you go down the pub and talk through the game over a few ales (not lager, that's for poofs and people who put gel in their hair and A&F on their backs). Then when it's out of your system, you can come on here, or call the phone-in.

The fact that the phone-in would be over would be tough titty.

think he has to be given the summer - a lot of players out of contract, and he has the chance to be ruthless and get rid of a lot of dead wood. the excuse about not having money doesnt wash anymore, and i think we can pretty much write this season off. once we reach the 52 point mark, give some fringe players a run of games to see if they are good enough

next season will be the key - if we are not challenging top 6 at christmas, then he will be into his third year in the job, with significant money spent and no sign of improvement from when he took over. then it will be time to get rid and appoint someone who has the potential to lead us into falmer in good shape on the playing side of things

unfortunately, judging by the phone in and a lot of people on here tonight, i dont think the majority of fans are going to give him that amount of time should things keep going the way they are

We're not good enough for Play offs, we're not good enough for mid-table. We're just about good enough to survive relegation, with the football we're currently playing.

Out in the summer, it''ll do no good changing at this stage. Same apttern as last season, started well, got to xmas and fell apart as can't seem to handle success.

I was unahppy at the initial appointment but decided to get behind him as a fan should a new manager. Tonight confirmed what I've been feeling for a while, too much 'hoofing', inability to take chances/kill teams off etc. Definate lack of confidence within the team. Last 10 mins showed some fight, but better teams will be out of sight after 80 mins of play like that.
Tranmere were a better team and they weren't out of sight.... Tonight was a crazy game but the only team that has been 'out of sight' better than us this season were Millwall on boxing day. ???

I didn't EXPECT us to be top 6 this season, but I did EXPECT us to make significant progress on last season (which was dire). Therefore, up until christmas I was very happy. Now, it looks to me like we're no different to where we were 12 months ago, and if that remains the case he HAS to go. There's too many 'ifs' at this stage, but I'd say the next three home games are crucial to him. Dick Knight showed with McGhee that he will sack the manager when the crowd turn, and from what I heard/saw tonight, that was a crowd on the turn.

I think he's been unlucky too see his side broken up mid-season. We're massivly missing Hammond and O'Callaghan in the center of the park. I think that given time he can build a good side.

This league is poor as we all know so with our quality in forward positions i believe we will finish nearer the play offs than the drop zone all we need is a few players back for the run in and the Wilkins out threads will be a thing of the past ......................................until next season.

Whillst that does make some sort of sense, he did prove that he could get that extra out of the team, when he was given the right tools. (GO'C, Savage, Hammond etc). A new manager will not bring his own kitty.

If anything, I am quite excited about the summer. It is a chance to get rid of some players that are not up to it and bring in some hungry new signings. We have the basis of a decent team, but too many square pegs for round holes. We actually looked like a decent side, pre-xmas and had an attacking bench. Alas, Bas, Dean and George all thought they were better than us. Ce sera.

Somewhere over there...
In, we might not be playing the most attractive football and we might not be pushing for a playoff (although we have a few games in hand to help that out) we have a reletivly new squad who still havent had much time to fully gel yet.

I reckon we should wait until next season to decide on whether he should be sacked or not.

His teams are SO dull to watch that there are MORE empty seats than full ones in the ground.

Get a experienced, respected man in asap

Sadly, can't see it happening though

I agree with you totally......Dreadful performances at home to Cheltenham are not.

We are agreed. The one thing we miss is George O'Callaghan. He meandered back and screamed for the ball to be played short to him, then he comandeered the next move and passed it to either Hammond or the best option. I think we are going to have to be patient, until we get a decent partner for Thomson and then he can fill that role (with not quite as much flair). Fraser? He has lots of energy, but I wouldn't say he is ready to take the job on full time.

As far as the performance tonight, I felt there is only so much the management team could do. No one was forcing the players to give the ball away so much. Even two changes at half time did not have a huge effect. It does seem to be a confidence thing and we played some decent stuff towards then end, when the crowd woke up and they starting believing in themselves, that and the fresh legs of Robinson running at the defence - now if only he could do that from the start!

There were some positives to take from tonight and the negatives can be worked upon next week. We now have three days training to gather ourselves and build upon this. We just need a dodgy ref to get the crowd going.

Out!!! Can't stand the bloke ruining our club before our very eyes. One result against a potentially relegated club doesn't change anything. Still over 40% even on here have no faith in him as the people on the fence do not want to openly admit he is crap just yet.
