Yep, the exact man. It's funny how he developed so quickly when he got to play with quality players. I'm not saying Gus/Tanno didn't help him but that ability must have been lurking in there somewhere.

Unbelievable. A league 2 clogger who countless managers had not been able to get anything more out of. Gus turns up, turns the style of play on its head, says E-Abd is the best defender in the club, we all think he's mad, works with El-Ebd to adapt his game to the Poyet philosophy, and within a season El Abd becomes a very competent upper-Championship level defender. And you put it down to... the other players around him.

Utterly ridiculous.

Absolutely agree. You can't reason with the anti Poyet group. I'm not saying he was perfect or that what is happening now is wrong (as none of us know what happened). However, to dismiss his achievements really annoys me. Your example of El Abd is great as the same people who were writing him off pre Poyet are probably the ones saying he was always good enough to play in the Championship!

Club record for number of weeks at the top of the league, club record of season with 95 points just to name two achievements.

The highest number of points gained by any club in a single month in the country ever.

The list goes on and on. Poyet was a revelation here, anyone who says otherwise is wrong (and probably stupid).

That's just how I think. I am not a 'Poyet is god' person, or any other ridiculous phrase the anti mob here want to accuse me of, but I do think he is a great manager and will be sad when he moves on. He will be successful in the future wherever he goes.

We finished 4th this season, which was a great achievement in my view. We were above Leicester, Wolves, Bolton, Forest etc who all work with bigger budgets than us. Losing to Palace did take the gloss off the season but it is a real shame what has happened since as I genuinely believe that we could have gone one better next season if none of the off field issues had come up. Sadly we will never know but I agree that Gus will be a successful manager and it's a shame that he won't take us to the Premier League before going on to bigger things.

From a outsiders perspective, if indeed Gus does leave, he will be hard to replace.
Sometimes you don't realise what you've have till its gone, and to get a manager with a similar footballing philosophy won't be easy. It's seems Gus spat his dummy out after the semi, but i feel that his relationship with Barber is probably the root cause of this.
With this fiasco set to rumble on, it's not great preparation for the new season.
BTW, Ferguson jnr would be a bad appointment .

I don't think you will find many Albion fans who disagree with you on that. Will be disappointed if it is Fergie Jnr.

Having said that, I will still give him a chance and be supportive and maybe he would surprise everyone. I am pretty sure we wouldn't have the best defence in the league again next season though!

Great manager = Yes
Flawed personality = Yes (huge ego, huge mouth, self-centred)
Most importantly, burnt his bridges with our club and chairman, and wants away = Yes
Get over it.

Haven't you guys been telling us how terrible Poyet is for the last two years?

I don't think anyone is saying that he should stay particularly. Just suggesting that rewriting history and diminishing Poyet's achievements here is wrong. He was a brilliant manager for us and when we have moved on from this and have a new manager, I'm sure that people will move on. However, while this is still going on, people are going to discuss it.

Would you say Jose Mourinho's huge ego, big mouth and self centred-ness means he has a flawed personality as a manager? This whole thing about Gus' ego is ridiculous, find me a really successful manager who doesn't have a big ego and isn't self-centred. The most successful people in football management, and in life in general, are not usually the nicest. Alex Ferguson is a complete prick. And the greatest manager that ever lived.

Why people seem to think the manager should be nice and humble and constantly pander to the fans, I have no idea. The manager should be the ****ing boss, and nobody should be in any doubt about that. And if they are, they should **** off out the club. All the top managers operate like this, every single one of them.

And your 'burnt bridges with our club and Chairman and wants away' statement is just pure speculation as usual. How do you know he wants to leave? Where has he said this? He didn't want to go to Reading, for a start. You're just speculating on things you assume to be true, from your viewpoint.

No one at Palace can surely see him as anything but a goon, promotion or no promotion.

One mans goon is another mans proven attack minded manager with a decent track record .

And the ten matches leading up to the play offs?

As I said , he came good.
Turned a team on the verge of blowing it, to a team not conceding a goal in the play offs.
That my friend, it the sign of a clearly focused and motivated manager.

A Zaha-free season will be the true test of the man.

Do you not think he should be respectful of the club that pays his wages? Following on from that do you also not feel he should be respectful of the supporters who are going some way towards pay his wages? A lot of people earn considerably less than Poyet and follow the Albion up and down the country, his comments post Palace were very poor and naive at best.

Poyet has been a brilliant manager and he should be respected for his achievements.
