Ok he wasn't on the database. So add him there and then (the same with anyone else who's made the effort to go to the club shop in person, like a newcomer to the area). It's not a legal requirement that you HAVE to be on a database, merely the club policiy for this match.

I'm totally and utterly confused by this ... My bro rang the ticket office on Monday and was told in no uncertain terms not to bother faxing in a request as there was no
Chance of getting tickets as it was very. Lose to being sold out and they hadn't processed all apps

So basically what we are saying is that we are not interested in the casual fan, only those who are prepared to divulge their personal information to "allow Brighton and Hove Albion" to let us buy a ticket.

This is just what I was saying about HASSLE. If you have hassle in a transaction, I dont care what that transaction is, then you will not attract people.

I had this with Reading FC when I went to buy some tickets for London Irish. I had to fill out a form and on the form was a box that I ticked NOT to allow Reading FC to contact me about offers....sure enough, three days later I had a very nice lady phone me offering me tickets for Reading's next home game...I said how did you get my details and she said that as I bought LI tickets I would be included in Readings marketting. I told her I didnt want to be and she basically said Tough!

one of the women at my office had a similar thing...wanted to take her two lads to the game. I just spoke to the chap in the ticket office and said I was a blue member, gave my name and postcode and got the tickets sorted.

I can understand why the ticket office are doing this...as loads of City fans have been trying to get tickets in the home end...but I thing so long as you've got a RH or BN postcode it shouldn't matter.

The idea is fine, trying to stop City fans getting in the home end, it is just as always with the Albion, poorly executed. If people apply in person at the ticket office and dont have Manc accents or M postcodes then it shouldnt be an issue (generalised but you catch my drift).

I think we know the answer:-

'On further inspection, if you do not get an auto-response saying 'certainly sir, no problem', then it's been filtered. I will be looking into this further, but certain words used in the shop will affect this. We have to have the filter on, otherwise we end up with literally thousands of glory hunters looking for tickets and trying to spend money each day.

Its the same working in a supermarket with customers buying alcohol, if they look under 25 and dont have ID then the sale is refused even if in your judgement they look over 18 but under 25 the booze cant be sold as they fail the security check. The club rewrote the rules about ticket allocations - its up to them to make a decision on what should happen in this individual case.

Selling alcohol to a minor is an offence though. Selling a ticket to a football match to someone not on a sales database isn't.

Is very true. Tickets should firstly go on sale to season ticket holders, then fans with a previous booking history, THEN general sale where ANYONE can buy them.

Agree 100% I suppose the club would say that as the didn't know him, old bloke or not, they were scared he might go and sell his ticket to a City fan. Mind you the same could be said of anybody. Like you (and others) have said though common sense should have prevailed. No surprise that it didn't.

Lets be honest, they have no idea whether he would keep the ticket or maybe just chancing his hand for a Man City relative. My in-laws are ,mostly Man City fans and they all live in Haywards Heath. It is not beyong the bounds of possibilities that he could have got the ticket for a mate. If there is no way of tracing it back then if there was any trouble the club would be in the shit. Also, do we know whether the Police have requested these restrictions. The club are caught between a rock and a hard place but hopefully they will help out if contacted. I must admit though, that would have been the first thing I would have done rather than rant on hear about it.

Bugger, all these years supporting Brighton and I didn't realise you had to live in the town. I could have saved my money and supported one of the big four instead.

Surely if he had I.D. they would sell him a ticket, we need all the bums on seats we can get. I can't believe we turn business away FFS this needs to be addressed by the club as a matter of urgency and rip the so called 'policy' up. I'm going down the town tomorrow. Might go into the ticket office if there's a moderate queue and buy two tickets then offer them on here cost price. The 80 year old man can have first dibs on one if I'm successful.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I did call the Ticket Office today and they were most helpful. I did manage to buy my Father a ticket on my own Season Ticket Data. So it is sorted now. So it appears that if you have friends or relatives with ST's then that is the answer.

If you go into the TO as my father did then no chance. Anyway some of the comments and respect shown on this thread have been most heart warming. I have printed all this pages off to give to my father. Thanks again everyone particuarly to those that offered us help.

No.

I would presume that the same arrangements will apply to future home league games as have applied to all home league games up to now.

You will be able to go into the ticket office and buy a ticket for cash. You don't have to sign up for anything and you don't end up on the database.

This database requirement will only be invoked when there is a serious danger of tickets selling out - especially if all the away tickets have already been sold and there is a likelihood of away fans wanting to buy tickets in the home end.




Mind you ... I wish we COULD allow home and away fans to mix. It worked OK at the Porto v Fenerbahçe game I went to on Wednesday. Yes ... Fenerbahçe.
