..... fans like Leeds,.... must be shit ...... no atmosphere and no one turning up to home games.
I am totally gosmacked by this. Being s season ticket holder for many many years I had no idea a "stranger" couldn't just turn up and get a ticket. How ridiculous is that? Our ticketing system is beyond a joke now.
You wish you had fans like Leeds, it must be shit to be a Brighton fan with no atmosphere and no one turning up to home games.
Agree 100% I suppose the club would say that as the didn't know him, old bloke or not, they were scared he might go and sell his ticket to a City fan. Mind you the same could be said of anybody. Like you (and others) have said though common sense should have prevailed. No surprise that it didn't.I guess there are two sides to this story.
The club don't want Man City Fans in the Brighton end. Good idea therefore not to sell tickets over the 'phone to people not previously on the database - there are lots of City fans who live in Sussex, and the away end sold out very quickly.
Imagine what it would be like on here next week if there were loads of City fans in the South Stand....."how did the club allow that to happen blah blah when I've been going to the Albion for 40 years blah blah"
It does however seem crazy that an 80 year old Brightonian cannot walk into the club shop and buy a ticket - surely bit of common sense was required here.
When we get to Falmer, (actually it should be done a minimum year in advance) the club need to invest in some decent Marketing people who can get the stadium filled every week (Southampton went from 14k at the Dell to nearly 30k at St Marys)
Pricing however is crucial,

It seems the club are going to sell-out for the Man City game. So, what they are doing is ensuring that only fans who have been to withdean before get a ticket. It makes sense to me
An old man of 80, providing his postcode from Brighton is unlikely to be a Man City fan. That is pure common sense.
I take your point, but once again I think common sense should have prevailed. If tickets are still available now then we're not in another 'West Ham' situation. All the priority cases have been dealt with and it's now just us Big Game Charlies and casual fans left.I see how the 'old man' clearly isn't a hooligan, tout etc. However, it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of age - just because he is old does not mean that the club should have dropped their 'you must be on our records' rule. Had they done this for an 80 year old, they would have had to do it for everybody.
Cue ticket mayhem.
(Before anyone asks, I don't know how it is legal to charge seniors less for their tickets - just one of those quirks).

Ok he wasn't on the database. So add him there and then (the same with anyone else who's made the effort to go to the club shop in person, like a newcomer to the area). It's not a legal requirement that you HAVE to be on a database, merely the club policiy for this match.
With a bit of flexibility an old man wouldn't have had a wasted journey and the club would have made another sale.
I'm fairly sure for most games general sale does mean general sale. The database rule is specific to the city game. Its true that customer service could've been better in this case though
Everyone should show a bit more respect to the old.
