Why is STILL ok to attack certain communities? SERIOUS QUESTION!

Speak for yourself there. It appears that there are three or four people expressing bigoted views, based on their own experiences, with about the same number countering them. Considering the number of people who have viewed the thread, but probably not posted, who knows what the true balance of opinion is. My guess is that there are many who find the comments offensive but are afraid to post against them for fear of the response, which given your counter attacks would appear justified.

WnW makes some good points about what life was like in the 60's and 70's, try being Irish in the 70's and it wasn't much fun, I remember it...I was there.

I see, so we're bigots because we have have had negative experiences, why's that that then ? Are you really that naive ?

big·ot   [big-uht] Show IPA
noun
a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion.

If you have taken your negative experience and used it to condemn a whole race of people then it makes you a bigot. I would say there are three or four different people doing that.

Not the real one
Going back to the op. I see your point and agree largely. However the 90% rejection of planning probably comes about due to the high pre portion of land disputes in these cases and also due to large amounts of local objections. Some local plans take an objection count, Brighton and Hove doesnt however. There probably is some sort of descrimination, but when I think about it, if travellers wanted to move around the corner from me and put in planning I'd probably object too, because in that sense I'm a nimby about having a traveller site near me. I dont want one here basically.
I also can't help thinking that if the travellers asked for planning to build an actual house or perminant living structure, they would also be less likely to be turned down.

Regarding the media double standards, the media is all about which angle to take to sell papers and also whatever is to their and the people that bank roll thems interest.

Not all travellers are the same though. There are "gypsies", proper Romany travellers. There are those groups who clean up after themselves and you'd never know they'd been there. Then there are those that steal and mug and are anti-social in their behaviour.

Perhaps the bad group are the minority but it's their fault that all travellers get tarred with the same brush.
I'm perplexed at the love-in with so called "romany" gypsies, in my experience they aren't much different from Irish "travellers" , as for them clearing up after themselves ? Laughable.

Yes.

One of them quite probably saved my life, or at least helped me avoid serious injury, when I was a kid. I was spending the summer working on a fruit farm picking strawberries. Every day a van would pick us up in the village and drive us out there. One day I was sat at the back of the van, leaning on the door, when a lady noticed that the handle wasn't shut properly. She shouted out for me to move away from the door, a split second before we went over a bump and it sprung open, that lady was a Romany.
Wow! Amazing , I cant believe she did that, crikey , she might have strained her voice or even worse, that really has restored my faith in humanity.

To be fair Romany Gipsies are not the same as Travellers. no way no how, no issues with them. However most travellers try to align with them to imply they are the same people when in fact they are nothing like it. Just a pity that there are so many ignorant PC types on here who don't know the difference.

I don't mind somebody trying to sell me 'Lucky White Heather' but if only it stopped there. The likes of wankers Derby Gull and Barrel of Dung are too stupid to know the difference.

My god. :lolol:

I haven't mentioned anything about travellers. Merely following the debate. I don't have enough experience to comment on travellers, aside from watching My Big Fat Gipsy Wedding.

I have no intention of debating with you as you seem unable to control your anger management issues.

Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish.

Sarcasm is not befitting of you when you deliver it so poorly.

I would love to enter into a battle of wits with you but have always believed it unfair with a man who is so clearly unarmed!

Here are the facts.

When I was 14 I was given a nasty hiding by 5 traveller younguns for no reason at all. They went through my pockets but as luck would have it I had f*** all on me, so the effort was wasted. These little cuntrags were scum, however that doesn't mean I would label the entire traveller community as such. In adult life I now have two good mates of gypsy/traveller heritage.

If you were/are lucky enough to take a trip to kings house, the council offices in Hove, you will see loads of posters about travellers. Most of them say things like 'Part of YOUR community' or words to that effect. The fact of the matter is local government see the travelling community as the same of the rest of us, no matter what we might think. This business at Dale Farm has come about because the travellers broke the law. Nothing more nothing less.

So no. The travelling community is not persucuted by the government other than when they break the law. The reason for any public animosity is probably because people have experienced anti-social behaviour as I have. And who can blame them? If someone behaves like a wanker you can expect to be treated as such, you cant then throw in the race card to trivialise it.

End of facts.

Your 'facts' are based on some posters in a council office. These facts are based on cited references and statistics and investigation undertaken by an expert in the field. They say the the travelling community are persecuted.

I had an extension built on my house last year - I had to get planning permission for it. The average "traveller" band occupies a piece of land on the Friday before a bank holiday knowing that they'll have three full days to build what they want before the council can do anything. They then apply for retrospective planning permission. How is that right that they can do what they want and I cannot.
The average person in this country abides by the laws set down by this country - the average traveller sees fit to challenge those laws.
The vast majority of them own big expensive caravans, pulled by big expensive cars and yet they don't work. You only have to go up to Epsom during the Derby week to see this. How do they come by the money then ?
I work and I pay my taxes - I cannot avoid this.
But what it all comes down to and to answer the original question the people that are being "persecuted" are not Romanies they're itinerant scum - a travelling.band of underclass that want it all without doing what the vast majority of people in this country do which is to work for their money.
That's why people hate them

Come on you super seagulls

That is of course true, but it is difficult to access these services if you are constantly on the move and in theory of no fixed abode.

I suppose that is racist against them too somehow. They choose to move and put their kids aducation at risk, they also freely sponge off the NHS while inputting nothing.

You are entirely right but some cretin will probably call you racist. The PC brigade need to drink a whole glass of reality. I loathe them, they are stupid.
