Ahhh there you are. welcome!

The odd G & T, was I right?

You are indeed Sir but when I was manager at The Silver Horseshoes in Midhurst because we had a tie with Carlsberg and I didnt like John Smiths I drunk bottles of Becks. Now it is Tanquery Gin with Sch tonic and lime. As regards Harveys it is a known fact that I do not like either their management or the beer I think both are substandard.

As regards talking to Simmo it is very difficult to talk anything other than s..t with him.

You forget I met a couple of blokes who used to sit near you.
They told me how you would bring cuttings a week after a game to try to prove you weren't talking bollocks at the time.

Very nice too, although I am a Hendricks man out of choiced when it comes to gin.

It's a funny thing, in my younger years, when l was working in London, I used to have a penchant for Youngs beer, particularly Special. Very few Youngs houses in Sussex of course, so hadn't tasted it for years. Then l went back to west London to visit my cousin recently, found a Younds hostelry, and treated myself to an eagerly awaited pint.

Christ it was awful, tasted akin to diesel oil. Whether it was my taste that had changed, or the recipe of the ale. A crying shame either way, it has pretty much put me off drinking beer at all now.

That is complete bollocks I used to bring a print out of both teams and the ref etc so as not to buy a program.

Sadly, Cowfold, Young's beer is now produced in Bedford, under a joint venture with Charles Wells. Young's are just a pub company. When I was at the Home Office my local was a Young's pub, the Buckingham Arms. Regarding Harvey's, I find it tastes better at the Royal Oak, the Seagulls over London pub, than in Sussex for some reason. BG, what is your favourite tipple? Surely you can't like keg"g bitter more than real ale?

Being surrounded by them I confirm that Youngs sell very nice beer, just not their own.

Haven't been in a pub for so long, but when in a Youngs I always drink wine because they randomly used to stock have my favourite Spanish one.

Miles Jenner always said his favourite pint of Harvey’s was served at the Dorset Arms in Withyham, albeit that was probably 20 years ago.

Times may have changed. :)

I've always found Harveys to be absolutely bang average. Obviously better than fizzy piss but on the real ale scale of deliciousness its barely a top half beer to my taste buds.

The biggest inconsistencies will be water, age and storage.

This is a very interesting thread. I enjoy a pint of Harveys partly for the taste but partly because of its associations with Sussex and growing up taking sips of my Dad’s pints at various cricket clubs and pubs post match. I must admit to a lot less knowledge of the technicalities and terminology than many posters on here. So I resolved to learn something this morning and found this very enjoyable article to share;

https://www.fullers.co.uk/blog/beer-articles/cask-and-keg-beer

From the article;
‘In one corner, there’s cask ale. Cask ale is, without exception, Britain’s finest ever invention. That’s not opinion, that’s fact. It’s better than penicillin, the Internet, the corkscrew, Marmite and Viagra put together - and I should know as, last Friday night, I actually did put them all together and ended up, rather embarrassed, in A&E. With the benefit of hindsight, I should have chosen a nice pint of Chiswick.’

So is Harveys cask or keg ? Or does it depend where you buy it ? (please excuse the ignorance of my beer drinking amateur question)

It depends. Most of Harveys is cask based (hand pull pumps) - however some of their newer 'trendier' beers have been Keg based. Largely I guess because they suit the styles better, but also for longevity / life of the beer. Wheres BensGrandad when you need him ?

I think BG is off recruiting a new left back for us but looking down on us with a smile at how well the club are moving forward.

Rest easy BG, everything is under control
