I used to always champion Dark Stars APA over Harvey’s in the great Amex debates but that’s pretty ordinary now..... I really don’t know if they really are worse or the bar has just been raised so much higher. I’m 60 but I still think Harvey’s is the worst of the ‘Old Mans Bitter’ around.
I recently returned from a fishing holiday in Cornwall, the local British Legion club only had one draught bitter, Betty Stogs and that had two pumps! Stogs and Tribute are two of the worst Old Man beers ever! Was forced in to copious Amstel's.

I drank a lot of Harvey's Best when I was younger, so to me it feels like a drink from a while ago rather than for older people. It has been eclipsed somewhat by the fashion for Pale Ale over the last ten years.

As it reminds me of many younger days I'm not sure I could judge Harvey's Best by taste alone - it's got a lot in there for me besides that.

How very dare you mix Harvey's up with that lot. Especially the Greene King nonsense.

Tetleys
Old Speckled Hen
Hobgoblin

Are the top selling ‘oldmanbeers’ in the Uk if you don’t include Guinness which any good man will drop back to if needs be.

I presume these are outsale figures as well.

I huge fan of Dark Star until they sold out to Fullers who then off loaded the brand to Assanti in my humble Dark Star beer is not what it was.

I tend to drink when available Burning sky, Arundel, Gun, long man and firebird

Nothing beats straight from the barrel. Bottles are pasteurised, absolutely ruins some beers. Dark Star Hophead is sublime from the pump, or barrel, a waste of glass in a bottle by comparison.

Yes,I think the bottled Harvey's isnt bad but a pint direct from a freshly tapped barrell seems to be the best.
Ive seen a few gents drinking Harvey's from a can which seemed rather strange.
I was going to buy a few cans myself but I just can't bring myself to do it,I can't believe it's going to be very nice.
I will keep an eye out for darkstar hophead and give it a try if I see it.

Long Man beers giving Harvey's a serious challenge and winning in my view....

I've only had long man from bottles. MEH! Strangely some berrs go to bottle well, I think the clevererest ones have worked out roughly what happens when you cook beer and adjusted recipes accordingly. Punk, Thornbridge and beavertown being the first that spring to mind

Benchmark Brewery Eridge brew a decent pint and sell it in bottle conditioned form. St Austell Proper Job seems to be in every supermarket, bottle conditioned and excellent IMHO.

Whoah where did that come from?!

It's a screenshot from Sunday's episode of Last Week Tonight.

Perhaps George got a taste for Harvey's while filming The Monument Men in Rye a few years back. The pub sign he has seems to be from The Victoria in Eastbourne.

Where has it been off loaded to? Still brewed in Partridge Green.

Think you’ll find Fullers did not off load the brand at all. Fuller Smith and Turner approached Asahi to see if they’d buy the brewery as they wanted to concentrate on the pub estate. Fullers Chiswick and Dark Star being part of the brewery so was sold to Asahi along with Cornish Orchards Cider.
