I know it's out of season and I know it's a TARTS drink, but the Golden Ale that Harveys do is consistently bloody delicious.

That is not normally a big enough change for a full licence reapplication. They would have to be talking about live music as well, or considerably later opening hours. Something like that. Anyway all this theorising is based on something some blokes said in a pub, so perhaps it is best to leave it here for now. I may pop past there on the way to work later to see exactly whet the sign on the door says.

It's all here: http://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/content/business-and-trade/licensing-and-gambling

Just click on Public Register then type "Nelson" under trading name.

Kronenburg is consistent.

This, back in the day I used to drink Harvey's in the Kings Head in Cuckfield, but got fed up of queuing ages for my pint only to find it tasted like vinegar on too many occasions. Switched to lager, no longer had a problem.

However, I do like to dip back into the real ale market now and again, specially as I no longer frequent watering holes were queuing is an issue!

Looks like it is just a ten year reapplication. They have not rally changed anything. So the sign on the door probably is not why they were closed, just that you have to display that whilst you are reapplying for your licence. There is a small issue though, the website states they now have a licence for recorded music or live performance between the hours of 23:00 and 00:00. Hopefully for them that is just a typo as only one of hour of music a day, at the end of the evening would be a bit weird.

As has been mentioned, good quality craft ale is always subject to so many factors. Cans and pints of Fosters are easy to replicate due to ingredients and production process; real ale is a craft and needs to be cared for, loved, even cherised to get it spot on.

I heard that it was no longer a Harvey's brewery pub and that they were not intending to sell Harveys.

Although not a fan of the stuff, it will be a shame if true, as it will be another Brighton institution of sorts gone.

I am pretty sure Notters is correct about it becoming Harveys directly owned and therefore likely to have a restaurant as well, but will watch this space.

unless we're talking about another Nelson, the Lord Nelson has been a Harvey's tied pub for as long as ive known, and my old man knows it as a Harvey's pub, probably always has been, and features on Harveys new refreshed website. the change recently was the Brighton fan landlord left, taking the copius memrobila with him (or it was donate to someone), which was a bit of shame.
