My step-daughter was working in Dalston last night, and had to get home to Sydenham. Thankfully, she did so OK.

Me and the missus are due to go to a theatre in Dalston on Friday evening, followed by a meal in a Turkish restaurant. We're probably giving it a swerve, but that picture (with your caption) does perversely appear to tell a more positive story.

I'm sure things will have quietened down by then so don't be put off going. Knowing the Turkish mentality they wont be letting any kids anywhere near to their shops/businesses.

Well yes actually. I'd like to make it abundantly clear that such abhorrently racist views are not acceptable. The fact it has already been mentioned doesn't mean I feel any less strongly about it. The more people who condemn it, the more we look like civilised, rational human beings

As I said above, I think Jimbo expressed himself badly but I can understand his point of view, it's not as though it's not being echoed in houses all over the country. I appreciate that you're trying to show the World how PC you are but Jim is merely expressing an opinion based on his own understanding of what is going on.

Yes, you're right but I am trying vainly to remain PC. I would be very interested to have a rough approximation of the ethnic breakdown of the rioters though. It would make for some interesting debate rather than wild speculation.

In the so called democratic society we live in CS is entitled to his opinion but there again so it Jimbo. Jimbo was clearly angry when he posted that comment and whilst it was obviously misplaced (this became clear thanks to a later post by the post of the person who upset Jimbo in the first place) I wouldn't condemn Jimbo as a racist because of it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it ?

I wouldn't say he made any such assertion. Grant you I am no fan of Jimbo thanks to his some of his past posts but to ban him permanently for one rash post seems more than a little draconian.

I didn't ban him... but I would have... both for the personal nature of his post and for the deeply ignorant and offensive racist content.

In my short time as a mod, I don't recall a single post being reported so many times.

It's nothing to do with my "PC" views and all to do with the way he launched into an unprovoked racist attack on a fellow user.

I don't doubt people across this crumbling country have very similar views on those of a different colour skin to them but I wouldn't let any of them get away with it either.

In just the same way this thread questions why more people don't challenge those who are flouting the rules, I am challenging Jimbo's right to make unfounded assumptions about another board user in order to promote his racist agenda.

We SHOULD be allowed to debate the rights and wrongs of allowing children into Dick's Bar. We SHOULD NOT be allowed to publicly air views of a racist nature. Unfortunately it reflects on the whole board and we each have a duty to ensure it is not tolerated

If you look at the original post I have to say that I found it offensive. The fact is that Jimbo overreacted and whilst not big or clever I can see why he said what he did. That you felt the need start screaming like a bitch about it rather than trying to act in a more rational way makes you little better than him.
