[Politics] Why do we all wear jeans?

I wear jeans pretty much all the time and have done since I can remember, from flairs in the 70s. Drain pipes in early 80s, 501s at the end of the 80, bootleg some part of the 90s, lower waisted in the 2000s and straight fit for the last 20 years or so, with slight variations. Mostly buy Levi’s, second hand if I can find the correct ones.

But as I have got older and feel the cold more then ever, I bought a pair of lined walking trousers to wear at the football. They are so much warmer, they are real game changer. I also have a pair of trackies to put on in the evenings or first thing in the morning before a shower. I don’t wear them outside.

See now it just goes to show nobody has posted from the East stand upper yet because there would of been 100s of replies about how uncomfortable jeans were and they all swore blind that Jumbo cords with a nice matching cravat were by far the most popular match day attire, then slip into a nice silk dressing gown for MOTD.

Good ones are comfortable. Finding what fits is easier said than done!

personally, I wouldn't be seen dead in my own house, let alone public, wearing anything resembling a tracksuit, or joggers, or whatever slack arsed lazy fatso thread 'name's' have been invented since people started looking for an excuse to not wear proper clothes.
This 100%.

I haven't worn anything but jeans since Covid, I changed jobs just before, put on weight plus the VP in my new role was a scruffy Northerner and wore jeans and a casual shirt all the time. Nobody takes any notice at work as I'm not public / customer facing.

I did buy up a load of pairs (8 to 10) of my preferred brand, size and fit when Debenhams was going under so they will probably last me decades.

I stopped wearing jeans when I was about 14 after seeing Ronald and Nancy Reagan in them. I am both politically motivated, Mod obsessive and I would add autistic. However, I usually own a pair of white 501s
I can remember wearing black stay press in the North Stand around '86, I sat down at half time first and realised everyone else was wearing jeans.
About 3 years ago my wife bought me a pair of blue 501s and said I look good in them. That being the case I wear them often - after 28 years with my wife I'll take anything that she thinks I still look nice in.

This may not be the case. There was a brilliant documentary on PBS called Riveted: The History of Jeans

Because wearing a tracksuit outdoors (apart from sports) looks chavy?

Oh gawd. I have on occasion worn dark blue or dark green chinos to football (never office-beige). I'm in the "rarely finding jeans comfortable" group but a nice relaxed pair of Fat Face (for example) chinos aren't that formal, are hard wearing, and for me infinitely more comfortable year round. (Just typing that makes me feel old and like a middle management office bell cheese.)

Nope. Shorts all year round. Feels like my legs are being suffocated in anything else.

Yes. I know.
Same here for many reasons, mainly that I cycle everywhere, also your legs aren’t body parts that get particularly cold, good for winter vitamin D on your skin, good in all weathers, especially Craghoppers SolaDry that dry rapidly after getting wet...and most importantly you don’t end up with pasty, hairless pensioner ‘chicken legs’ where the constant denim friction burns off the hairs on your calves.

Not in Whitechapel
I’m shorts all year round. Not because I’m hard but because I’m fat which keeps me warm.

Don’t mind a pair of cargos if I have to wear trousers though.

I'm going into town today to buy a pair, as it happens. 32" short leg, in case you were wondering. I favour the "worn in" look, but I don't go as extreme as my son, who likes having those ones with big holes in them.
Whats that all about ?
