Navarro people seem quick to dump but I think he's a useful role playing back-up

Keepers like last season still biggest weakness, then strikers and full backs (later only after step up)

I love threads like this, where the same people who slag Gus off for his signings think we should dispose of half our squad. Presumably either to continue playing with 14 senior players, or force Gus to spend a large amount of money on 10+ players, enabling said individuals to moan again when every one of them doesn't turn out to be a key player.

Reality check: of the first team, perhaps four or five will go. Approximately the same number back in. Likely to be a new keeper, a striker, a full-back and a couple of centre mids. It's impossible to say with the development squad because we've seen very little of them, by the very definition of the squad they're in, they're being developed ready for first team action. My suspicion is most will get another year as their results seem to have gone pretty well this season.

Almost the only sensible post in this thread.

Doesn't matter how we do, every year there's a "get rid of the deadwood" plan from a huge amount of posters. A lot of people seem to just like change for the sake of it. I'd rather consistency.

Goalkeepers: At least two of Ankegren, Gonzales and Poke to be released. To be replaced by one top quality keeper(hopefully!).

Defenders: As is. Only question marks over whether Reyes is the answer at right back. Sign Mattock. Painter 50/50 as back up. Is his contract up at the end of the season?

Centre midfielders: Release Harley. I think one of Dicker, Sparrow or Navarro might be released too. Bring in one, or maybe two, top quality c.m's.

Wingers: As is. Buckley, Lua Lua, Noone and Vicente are as good a group of wingers as any at this level I reckon.

Strikers: No idea. They could all still be here or for various reasons all gone.

I am, of course, hoping(assuming?) that all replacements will be of a considerably higher calibre than those departing.

judging by the way Gus picks Navarro and how we have played since his return to the side, what possible reason would he want rid of him?

some idiot behind me was slagging navarro off in teh Middlesboro game after he played three blinding passes to split the full backs and played a short one that Bridcutt fell over the ball...which was navarro's fault as he is "shit" seemly!

Of those out of contract this summer I'd expect:
Brezovan 1 yr
Navarro 1 yr
Barnes 2 yrs
Vicente 2 yrs
Painter 1 yr
Bergkamp 1yr Development

so no deal for Ankergen, Poke, Gonzalez & Possibly Navarro depending on who Gus can bring in

I expect Gus to make certain players aware that they do not feature in his main matchday squad of 16 or overly close to his ideal squad of 25 and he will encourage them to look elsewhere:
Vincelot, Sparrow, Harley & Hoskins

I expect him to try and sign Vokes and Mattock on a permanent deal and look for someone who can play RB to challenge Calderon. We need stregthening in the centre of the pitch in both Midfield and Defence so we don't have to play 2 holding midfielders and we clearly need a top quality GK or 2 depending on who gets offered an extension and potentially a fourth striker depending on what Gus sees from the squad in pre-season.

It won't be as drastic as last summer but a handful of new signings plus some we've seen on loan with a similar number of current players who don't get much game time making way. I'm also expecting some players in the form of Assulin and Razak who are from a premiership side and want a season loan somewhere they can play passing football and compete

Agree that it's the out of contract players who'll move on.

Brezovan I think signed an extension, and isn't out of contract.

Gus is quite harsh with axing players and I reckon of those above, Navarro and Painter will go, along with Ankergen, Poke, Gonzalez as mentioned.

If we can get Vicente to stay we will.

I'm sure Barnes will be offered a good deal as well.

Other than that, we can't force anyone out, but if someone came in for Hoskins, Harley, or Sparrow, I'm sure they'd be gone.

Central midfield is where it's hard to pick - we've got numbers but not 'stand-out' quality - they're all much of a muchness. I'd suspect Painter will get another year, but be more peripheral next season as a backup/squad player. Barnes is a shoe-in for a new deal, versatile, scores goals, and Gus repeatedly picks and backs him. Dicker, JFC & Bridcutt are safe for central mid - but I would be staggered if all four of Sparrow, Vicente, Harley & Navarro are here next season.
