The financial markets have lost faith in the Chancellor and it’s looking close to no way back. She is to make a financial statement at the end of this month.

The economy is currently reacting in the opposite way to how she hoped it would after her first budget, there will almost certainly be further downturn.

It looks like she will have to cut spending in the next budget, and still may also have to raise taxes, in order to not break her own fiscal rules… which she has already ‘loosened’.

I don’t see how she survives another year.
Starmer’s ratings are so low there’s no room for anything other than financial success in the next 12 months and she only has a spring statement to bring that about. It seems unlikely as she has to continue in the same direction, in for a penny in for a recession as it were.
I'd say that we come back in a year to see how much of nostradamus' substantial wisdom comes to fruition.

I think the reason for the withering responses is that it is obvious we are caught up in 'events'.
The chancellor has not 'done a Truss' and tanked the economy.

So to start a thread where the basic assumption is that all our woes are down to the chancellor is a load of gaslighting bolleaux.

And starting the thread at 5.40 in the morning......it smacks of some sort of personal crisis.
So I guess we should feel sorry for the OP.
Might the OP, Musk and the Mail not like the fact that for the first time, we have a women Chancellor of the Exchequer, and also that it's a Labour Chancellor. We could even play Venn diagram bingo here.

You’ve just done exactly what I just described, without a trace of irony.

I've subsequently seen your posts in this thread. Without a trace of irony, I'll say that you're struggling to understand. Where have I said that anyone criticising Labour/RR is Hitler/far right -- which is what your point was.
FWIW, if you follow my posts, I have said that:
-- I'm in a different political party
-- criticised WFA, while also indicating the threshold has to be drawn at a higher amount, and wondering why the two-child policy hasn't attracted such attention on NSC (we can but wonder)
-- said that the rise in employers NICs might not have the effects RR wants it to, while also questioning what other options there were given the mistaken but understandable ruling out of rises in NI, income tax and VAT -- also being boxed in by claiming that public services need to be repaired and the fiscal rules kept to
-- said that RR and SKS are poor communicators, and that the new government's comms strategy has been dreadful (while also stating that there are good communicators in the government, including 'the wicked witch', EM, LN, DJ

You can respond to this seriously, if you want to be serious, but by what you're saying, I've 'fessed up to being Hitler/far right.

I just don’t think it’s helpful dismissing people’s views as being based on sexism when I’ve seen no evidence of this. It strikes me as leaping to conclusions and lumping everyone who is critical of the government in the same bracket, which was my point above. But you’re a good poster and I’m sure you didn’t mean to do that. :) anyway, I’m off for a nice pub lunch! Enjoy your day!

Labour has gone about it too quickly and too bluntly without apparently thinking through all the consequences e.g. the potential swap of pensioners to pension credit outweighs the potential gain in removing the Winter Fuel Allowance. Small businesses have been ignored and bear the burden NI increases whilst we still have not addressed a lot of big companies tax issues.

The next 3-6 month will show the quality of Starmer and Reeves etc if they able to react to some of their own mistakes.

As an aside Starmer calling people 'right wing' because they are concerned the abuse enquiries is at best moronic and worst will drive another couple of million voters to Reform.

I don't think people care about it being a female chancellor in the same way no one really cares if there is a female PM as long as they are doing a good job, Labour are the ones that made a big deal out if the sex of the chancellor in the first place !

I'll admit I found the triumphing of Reeves' position a little bit strange from a party that has only ever elected white middle-aged men as their leader.

I mean, is it really the case that every time Labour has needed a new leader, which must be c20 times over the years, the best candidate for the role has always been a white middle-aged man? What are the chances of that?

It all came over rather patronisingly

Look at the little lady getting that high in government !

I think this is it in a nutshell, the lack out political nous with this new administration is absolutely breathtaking.

They did not win a landslide on their own political merit, and whilst they have a majority to do what they want we are a long way from the “treading lightly on peoples lives” that KS referenced on the steps of No 10 in July.

The economic and political problems not of their own making would be tough enough anyway, but once you factor in NI rises, benefit cuts, Free gear Keir, Waspi, Chagos, appointing Mandelson as US Ambasador, Grooming Gang noise, Tulip Sadiq, nonce Caplin you kinda get the sense they are just like rabbits in the headlights.

A long way way from the adults taking over………not that the previous lot were any better.
