Some motorsport is far more sporty than many 'sports' but to be succesful is very much a broad spectrum team sport.

Obviously you're entitled to your opinion on baseball but it is your take on baseball that "really is embarrassing". It's totally ignorant!

It's not an American version of anything, it was invented here. And if not for the fact that India has a staggering population, you'd have to say its global reach exceeds that of cricket. It's a major sport in dozens of countries, not just the US. It is arguably THE major sport in the US, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and Japan, and a major sport in Canada, Mexico, Korea, and several more central America countries.

Whilst the rules for baseball were similar to rounders 200 years ago, they're not remotely alike these days.
You’re right. I find it painfully boring to watch and utterly skill-less. My ignorance derives from that as I simply don’t want to learn more about it.

But I’d say that’s the same about almost every sport mentioned on here. Like the people claiming golf is bad for the environment when we’re all football going fans… the people not seeing the irony in that is hilarious.

Nope.
But worse than sports where we’re building stadia and having people commute to said stadia? Give me a break - you’re putting forward a one sided argument.

You’re still preserving much of the land that would otherwise be sold for construction or business, or many other human pursuits that cause much worse environmental impacts.

By the way, I wouldn’t wipe any sport off the earth. That’s a Trump like thing. Every sport gives pleasure/livelihood to someone but sports (particularly global sports) need to build safer/sustainable practices.

I absolutely agree that football, as a spectator sport, is an environmental disaster, and getting worse. But as a participation sport less so. So i don't think it needs to be wiped from the planet, just returned to the days when everyone supported their local team and the team and fans travelled together to away games by train. Of course, cycling (if you assume the roads are already there) can actually be positive.

Darts, or is a sport really, Just an excuse for a load a drunken misfits to dress up as a banana or something stupid and watch a bunch of tattooed fatties throwing tungsten. Get rid it’s boring.
Darts is as much a sport as archery or any other target based sport and has an undeserved reputation because it's about skill and mental fitness not physical fitness. It's also one of the most accessible sports - there are almost no barriers to taking part. The skill at the elite level is unbelievable, not just coping with the mental pressure but the consistency as well...

I used to play a fair bit of darts and now it's more snooker for my "non-active" sport. I reckon darts is harder, and if you take a novice into both they'll be potting 3 or 4 balls in a row and positioning the white to do so quicker in snooker than they'll be consistently getting 120+ with 3 darts even though the board and distance never changes in darts but the variables in snooker are different every shot.

I wouldn't ban any sport as they all exist because enough people like them or play them, even if I don't (sorry, I know that's not in the spirit of the thread, but... whatevs).
What about badger baiting ? Or dog fighting ? Both considered 'sports' by those that do them.

This thread has shown just how many 'sports' are disliked, or even not regarded as sports at all.

Perhaps the definition of what is sport should be confined to athletics (running, jumping and throwing things), football and cricket. All the rest can be defined under the categories of Leisure activities, social activities, vehicle testing, animal training, physical exercise and fighting. Job done.

Skill-less? Round bat, round ball, try to hoik the thing the length of a football pitch while some 6’8” Texan luzzes the ball at you at 95 mph. I’ve heard it said that hitting a home run is one of the hardest things to do in any sport.

Well you could go down the line of banning everything that 'harms' animals (in the broadest of senses), but then that could wipe out horse-racing, greyhound racing, equestrian and probably a load of other stuff. And then what about sports that harm humans? Then that's boxing, MMA, wrestling, judo and others out.

I remember writing a feature maybe 25 years ago called 'The Sports That Deserve To Die' and including speedway in it. The volume of hate mail I received, electronic and old school, was phenomenal.

So, yeah, speedway. F*** 'em.

And F1.

Glad you agree. Cricket is so boring and deserves a ban.

Cricket. As dull as dishwater.
My brother keeps trying to get me to go with him, I'd rather be the filling in a Gemma Collins and P-Diddy sex sandwich while watching Mrs Brown's Boys.
