Randy must be worth an honorable mention. Okay there are only two: Rhodes and California, but considering how few people are actually called Randy compared with how many people are called John or James, it's probably not a bad ratio.

And Prince even more so.

Yeah if you're gonna do this properly you need to factor in the % of people who are/were called John.

Brighton factually.....
Johnny Cash?
great name but I guess more of an all-round musician rather than guitar specialist.
He is bloody good at guitar though.

He was not by any means of the imagination a good guitarist, and i adore the man.
The finger pickin your thinking about was Luther Perkins part of the famous Johnny Cash & The Tennessee Two.

Yes Luther and the Tennessee 2 were fantastic guitarists especially on the live albums but Johnny cash is still a good guitarist to my ears and his name is Johnny so I'm trying to big him up as guitarist for the purposes of this thread lol

Sorry, knowing Phillip personally and spending time at his house and recording studio at the back of his house, plus watching them record at the BBC when Down did a session, he is a front man foremost, and not an accomplished guitar play by any means.

Yeah I know, and I thought about it, but he does write music, and some of those awesome songs are going to have originated from his hand. Plus he does often whip out his axe on stage, so I'm still claiming it, although you're probably right, not one of the most outstanding players, but has certainly played his part.
