It was a beauty to see him and he added so much to us. I don't really sit and ponder the deal the club made with him and whether or not he was worth it. He's not the cause of our financial losses for heaven's sake. He's a man who seems to undeniably glitter most when in action and when we're lured into his mystique, and when he takes to the field, ideally this season with players who although won't match him are closer to his level, then it'll pay off when called upon. He'll be a gamechanger and we've been crying out for that. Whether we call him from the bench or he starts a whole load of games i dinnae care too much. I love to see him in the stripes. On Saturday he came on, danced on a couple of occasions, laid off a beautiful little throughball for Buckley to dart through, toppled to the turf like a carcass dropped from a low-flying chopper, and set up a goalscoring chance that i curse we didn't score.
A blinking delight for us and for the likes of Ashley Barnes who spoke of the joy to have him about the place.

OK so he's only had a short cameo so far BUT anyone want to hold their hands up and admit that they were wrong?

The silence is deafening after the slagging off he's had from some on here.

More injuries apart, exciting times ahead with Ulloa and the potential signing of a Dutch defender.
They're busy working on their " Ashley Barnes is shit " retractions

I would say a premier league team(with no fear of relegation) signing a striker who had barely touched a ball for two years is not the same as newly promoted Champioship team, after 10 years playing at an athletics stadium, signing a former spanish international.

The players are comparible. The clubs are no where near. That's what put Vicente's signing into the "REALLY?!" zone. Everyone (including the media etc) thought it was bonkers.

Stoke's was big for them, ours was ASTRONOMICAL. It's flair central and that's the reason I go MAD every time he comes on. It's THE vicente.

Either way, my point is, Clapping is not always performance based. Ulloa will get a mega reception before even kicking a ball as do all new signings.

I remember being mega excited about PAUL KITSON.....

Owen was a name pulled out of my mind in 1 second which seemed an appropriate proxy and also because of the NSC/Owen enduring relationship - - don't get hung up on it

My point is, when Vicente joined I was buzzing. His contributions over 18 months have left me thinking meh, and that frankly our money MAY have been better spent elsewhere.

As I'm sure Notts County fans will tell you re Sven/Sol Campbell, it's not really of interest to me what they did before, it's what they achieve at my club that really counts after the initial excitement wears off. I think I'm correct to say the jury is out.

How is what happened at Notts County even remotely relevant? I think you must not know what actually happened there.

Nope THEY are just keeping quiet waiting for his next poor game to relaunch the offensive. Once a Barnes hater, always a Barnes hater I fear.

Did you genuinely not - at any point - think; "hang on, why have we got him, not Newcastle or Liverpool" etc. If he wasn't injured all the time, we wouldn't have him. It's that simple. We knew the risk when we signed him.

This is such a crap argument. Clearly I didn't expect him to feature every game but are you.genuinely happy his contributions and availability represent a good investment from us?

Simply providing another example as I was pulled up, a little unfairly I think, on Stoke fans and Owen. Not brilliant but my point here relates to initial excitement at signing based on past glories in the game and ultimate delivery at new club.

I am not going to convince lots of you, but I am simply pointing out that Vicente has not yet proven to be a good signing.

Even for the few minutes he came on Saturday, he looked absolute quality. Very very exciting if he can stay fit for the run in.

Not a crap argument at all. Completely relevant and accurate. If he was fit for most of a season he'd be playing premiership, NO QUESTION. We've got him because he has injury problems. Simple as that.

I'm pretty sure there were bigger 'ifs' around the time we were about to drop out of the football league and into oblivion, to be fair.

No-one knows what Vicente has been through, what's wrong with him, or how much he earns. Look forward, not back. He's back in the squad, and hopefully on the pitch tomorrow and Saturday. Let's just enjoy it while it lasts before getting into debates about legacy, contribution, and return on investment.

The guy is class and I, for one, cannot wait to see him grace the Amex turf once again. (As long as he doesn't play the role of lone striker, because that is pretty pointless)

Fair enough - I've gone on too much about some of these things in response to a few messages, which won't change the views of either party.
Vicente is certainly exciting to watch, particularly when given the opportunity to collect the ball and run at a team. Playing him upfront doesn't make sense to me.

Sorry, should say "lone striker AGAIN". Can't remember the opposition, but I seem to remember him coming on earlier in the season to play that role and being pretty ineffectual.

I think it has been an amazing signing. it represented how far this club has come after years in the crapper and reveals a bright and exciting future where players of international class will regularly be wearing the stripes. I relish every second i have watched him live and i can't wait to see him again.
