Where are all the posters who said Vicente would not play for us again?

No idea what you have said in the past but the thread was only an observation that quite a few were convinced that he was taking the piss. He is a gamble, he wouldn't be here otherwise.

When it was muted that he may get time against Newcastle, there were quite a few posters who decided that the only reason that might happen was so that he could "put himself in the shop window"

It's almost like some people would rather be proved right about Vicente not being interested than see the most exciting player EVER to wear the stripes (imo) turn on the magic again. That is f***ing sad, again just imo.

I am (unfortunately) very much in the 'disappointed with Vicente' camp at the moment.
Do I know what he's earning? No. Can I make an educated guess that a player Poyet constantly describes as our best player is one of our highest earners? Clearly.

For me, his infrequent cameos are exciting to watch but do little for our ability to build a stronger team (as you clearly cannot rely on him) and have an opportunity cost - ie what we could have done with the money otherwise.

Frankly it annoys me that people start wanking off the moment Vicente takes to the pitch when regular star performers like Bridcutt have got relatively little back from the stands (only in recent weeks have people really started chanting his name).

Do I want Vicente to do well - obviously. Do I think he will make a significant and regular contribution to our season. No.

Yep, I was wrong in so much as he has appeared for five mins when I never thought we would see him again. Although a five minute cameo performance, where ultimately we dropped another two points is hardly worth having a wank about.....Not that I'm suggesting in any way shape or form Vicente is in any way to blame, but the fact remains we was winning when he entered the fray. That said it was his cross the nearly won the game at the end.

I am still wanking off, metaphorically, whenever I watch the video that gets posted up on here occasionally showing a few minutes of Vicente at Valencia and here last season, especially the goal against Ipswich and the run through half the Derby team culminating with a shot against the cross bar.

Whilst I take you point, I get excited everytime Vicente takes the pitch because he is technically so far ahead of any player I have ever seen play for the Albion, that all my disappointment at his lack of game time and injuries disappears

I have enjoyed watching Bridcutt almost since the day he replaced Navarro and I accept that in the grand scheme of the Albion's resurgence he has had a far more influential part than Vicente but he will never excite me in the same way

I was one who thought he wouldn't play for us again, so I admit I got that wrong.

I suppose the key point is not really whether he plays or not - he's under contract so is obliged to play if fit and selected - but rather whether he's going to make a difference to the side at any stage of this season. That still remains to be seen.

I think that's nonsense. To "reassure" other clubs that he's worth taking on, he needs to play a fair few games (say half a season and still be OK). By that time he's out of contract anyway so can go on a free.

The artisans do the hard graft, the artists turn games for you. Vicente is pure class and anyone who saw him leave two for dead with his first run at Brum was left in no doubt. We have spent 27 league games watching ' regular ' players make simple mistakes ( usually late in games ) and cost us too many points.
Give me a few cameo performances from a class act and i'll guarantee that he wins more points off his own back than some of our players will do in a full season

WHY ON EARTH do people get excited about seeing a former Valencia winger who played 38 times for the Spanish national team, and has won the Uefa Cup, and La Liga twice and made it to a champions league final before having his club reject a mega-money move to Manchester United, turn up in the shirt of Brighton and Hove Albion.

I would say a premier league team(with no fear of relegation) signing a striker who had barely touched a ball for two years is not the same as newly promoted Champioship team, after 10 years playing at an athletics stadium, signing a former spanish international.

The players are comparible. The clubs are no where near. That's what put Vicente's signing into the "REALLY?!" zone. Everyone (including the media etc) thought it was bonkers.

Stoke's was big for them, ours was ASTRONOMICAL. It's flair central and that's the reason I go MAD every time he comes on. It's THE vicente.

Either way, my point is, Clapping is not always performance based. Ulloa will get a mega reception before even kicking a ball as do all new signings.

I agree with riskit. Vicente is still absolute class when he is fit (which admittedly is not often), and when fit would walk into every single Championship side, and probably half the premier league. His signing was an absolute coup, and regardless of pointless stats about him in a Brighton shirt, for most people I suspect, every single minute he has spent on the pitch in a Brighton shirt has been one of awe, joy and a lot of the time disbelief. Even his 10mins against Birmingham took the breathe away.

No one else wanted Owen, he was not prepared to drop down a division, and Tony Clueless thought he'd bring him in as a squad player. Owen has actually been fit, but is not getting in the side. So it isn't really close to our situation with Vicente at all.
