Love my 5 year old Beemer 530SE (55k miles, had it from new), it’s an absolute dream on long motorway journeys, costs very little to service still and I can get close to 40mpg driving carefully. However…….doing more and more fishing and it’s not that practical for trundling down farm tracks or carrying gear so thinking about a change soon to some form of SUV. Don’t ideally want to pay the excess car tax if avoidable, but also don’t want to seriously downgrade from the 5 series build quality either as have got very used to it and will still do a lot of long trips. Had a look at an X1 a few weeks ago when waiting for my MOT, much bigger than I expected and poss big enough but other than that just can’t seem to find anything that might be suitable (caveat - I know bugger all about cars).

BMW 3.0d is a cracking engine.

Don't go for an X1... go for an X3 30d. It's all the car you'll ever need.

I am rather fond of a few pre war cars, 30's, Talbots and Rileys are rather nice . . . Trouble is, those of us normal height now are too tall for what was normal height then, you can't get in the bloody things and drive them properly.

As pre-war cars go, I absolutely adore the 1938 Delahaye Torpedo Roadster. It really is a beautiful machine.

The wonderful BMW naming game bites me in the poop-chute once more. Sorry, I didn't know you had a petrol...

Well, and X3 20d then! I've got a 5-Series 2.0d and it's plenty fast enough - but Mrs Nose had an X3 30d and I can honestly say it was one of the best cars we've ever owned (and by christ we've had a few :moo:)

Looks like a nice one, are you going for it?
I prefer the older MGs but they come at a price.
Any of these take your interest?

I went to 23k; it sold for 24.5k. Mixed feelings - some regret that I don’t have it, mixed with some relief I don’t have it!

The ones in the photo you provide are truly lovely.

VAN Toyota HIACE 2008…179k on the clock ….described as dated, but sturdy and reliable …dashboard from the 70’s …but has done the job for the last 8 years…and hopefully will give me a few more yet.

CAR Suzuki Swift SZ2 2015 …bought last year out of a very small inheritance …cheap to tax, insure etc ….hoping to do a bit more travelling down to say Cornwall and north to The Peak District over the next few years ….then it will probably be back to one vehicle …a van

Oh b***er, I can understand your feeling, I got in a bidding war once, I won but paid over the top, but for me, at the time it was well worth it.

A few days afterward I regretted getting involved, but a few years later, I am very happy I did!

It's a rollercoaster of emotion, I am sure there will be another car to take your fancy.

Was it specifically MG you were looking for? I do have some contacts in this field.

Was the auction at Bonhams?

Not specifically a MG, no. I’m after a pretty, as reliable as possible, easy/cheap-ish to maintain classic. Doesn’t have to be concourse, but will be considerably closer to concourse than a ‘project’. I’m happy to spend some money each year keeping it in good fettle.

Yep, the A was at Bonhams.

Had a Rav 4 when lived in the States and was very happy with it as a small SUV. Here though we went bigger and have a Fortuner and no problem 6 years in.

I always wanted one of the pagoda Merc’s (a 1969 280SL ideally)

An absolute thing of beauty, and apparently well built enough that there might be a hope of me keeping it on the road. Sadly they go for silly money, with a recent RHD example in good (but not concourse) condition going for £118k.

It’d be considerably cheaper to purchase an R231 SL and wait for classic status to be conferred upon it. The R230 SL is to be avoided due to both being ugly and a known issue where if it isn’t driven at least fortnightly the battery discharges itself and it won’t start. Not Mercedes finest hour.

I bought this a few years when i lost both parents. I had various play things when i was younger but always wanted a 911.
This is a 2010 997 Targa 4S.
I have a 520d to go and see the customers in.

I bought half a car yesterday. I say half a car, its only got 2 wheels, and no roof, but is much cooler than most cars, One of Bertones better designs. All original and unique, from 1970.

I'm thinking of adding the other half soon, so I have a matching pairView attachment 150122

Looks a bit like the GP they brought out in the late 60s, and not a million miles away from my old TV175.
