Jagcare for me

Good guys who love an old Jag or Daimler and know them inside out. Shortly after I bought my mid life crisis, I had a problem and took it to the Jag dealers which at the time were Harwoods, Old Shoreham Road (who had already lost a new sale from me for being absolute dickheads a few years previously).

I took it in, they kept it a couple of days, then gave it back with no idea of what the issue was or how to fix it, a three figure bill for 'investigations' a nice bottle of sparkling water (french, If I remember rightly) and a tin of mints in the central console plus a few people in shiny, if somewhat undersized suits.

I phoned my 'local' garage (who always sponsor an Albion player), had a bit of a rant about Harwoods and they said 'well what do you expect, given what you've bought, their child mechanics weren't born when they made that' Myself and my regular garage have what is commonly known as an 'open' relationship

So, I found Jagcare, they are excellent and I've used them for quite a few years now (and I believe, my local garage have recommended then since)

I’ve got the mints and the bottled water too!
I bought my car as Used Approved from Harwoods Chichester and traded in my older Jag. They couldn’t possibly have done their x hundred point check before delivery, because I soon had it back in to them for various problems. To be fair they then went to town and sorted out rather more than I thought they would. The car has been very reliable except for the odd Jag type electrical niggle.
Harwoods are either incompetent or thieves or both……I won’t bore you with the final fiasco I had with them, suffice to say they wanted circa £1800 to sort something out that my local did for £56!,,,

I’m keeping a eye on the bidding for the MG A I posted about earlier. In perusing other motors on the same site, I came across an XK8 (nope, not interested), with the following first paragraph:

‘ RELISTED DUE TO WINNING BIDDER'S WIFE FINDING OUT ABOUT HIS PURCHASE. HE'S NOW DEFAULTED AND LOST HIS DEPOSIT.’

Nothing special these days. I have a 2017 Renault Trafic (bought and paid for), and this is my 'Family Car' (which is on finance)

Don't touch a Hyundai! I have a Hyundai i10 - guzzles petrol - has the performance of a slug - understeers badly. Any car that needs two new clutches, and now needs a new gear box before it's done 50K miles is a complete heap of garbage in my book. Bought it second hand, so I'm obviously not the only one who wanted to get shot of it faster than we got rid of Jahanbakhsh - though unless I get a new gear box, it's pretty un-sellable anyway, except for scrap. Can't afford to buy a new (second hand) car anytime, just like that, so all I can do is drive the bloody thing without second gear and nurse it until it stops when something else goes wrong, and then scrap it.

Anyone want a cheap Hyundai with a genuine 49K on the clock?

2014 i10 owner here: just clicked over 69,000 miles and only let me down twice (should have replaced the battery earlier and also forgot to replace the chip in the key fob that works the immobiliser) so all failures down to me. A great little car. When this one goes it's straight back to Tates for another (though I really don't like the i20 but that's just me)

Edit: Never get less than 55mpg from a thankful. Superb economy even though I don't rush about

I'll repeat my question then ............. anybody want to buy a cheap low-mileage Hyundai i10? Low-balling offers seriously considered - fancy it yourself? Make me an offer! - just come somewhere near We-Buy-Any-Car's valuation!

£ for £, this is seriously the worst car I've ever owned - and most of the previous cars I've owned have been bangers because I couldn't afford anything newer.

Finally: best mileage I'v ever got out of the ba$tard thing has been 38mpg - and that's with free-wheeling downhill wherever possible.

Thanks again for all the replies and suggestions gents. I did a lot of shopping today lol and have decided to go with a 2018 Audi S4. Got a solid deal on it as just hundred dollars a month more monthly payment than I was wanting too pay but think will be worth it. Just 35K miles also.

I've never had a mk3, a 1 and a 2 though, nice cars to drive.

Lost count of how many Cortinas I've had, both MK1 & 2

Driven dozens of both plus Fiestas and Escorts (my Dad was a BL dealer and we had load of Fords come in as Part exchanges).

Remember driving a 2.0 Mk3 Capri, went like stink but didn't like corners much. It was white and my Dad told me white cars don't sell so my only drive was to take it to the local Auction...

I spoke with a motor insurance risk assessor type chap at my girlfriends dads restaurant. He loves cars to a worrying degree.

I asked him, “if I have 15-20k to buy a car now, what brand should I avoid and what brand should I buy?”

I was quite drunk but I recall 2 significant details.

- The fallacy that Japanese cars are rust buckets bc the Japanese don’t salt their roads is nonsense / a thing of the past. Japanese / Asian cars should not be avoided for this reason. Many are now made here / in EU and parts are quite ubiquitous so actually make them a more attractive purchase.

I asked him how he rates my Skoda Fabia 1L 2015 (partly in jest) and he didn’t laugh in my face. Not the best, but not a bad car at all. And basically a rebadged VW.

IMO you should look at Skoda. Certainly the older models (pre 2016ish) were quite decent for what you paid. The newer cars look really good but also cost a bit more £. And if I was going to drop +£20k on a car I’m not sure it would be a Skoda, but I do like the Karoq (sic).

We have a Toyota Alphard camper. Knocks spots off those converted VW builders vans. We also have an Auris as a daily runabout. Boring but reliable as *&%£.

I bloody love it, no central locking, no aircon, drives like a tractor, knee breaking clutch. Knocks spots off of any shiny plastic Japanese import.

I also have a Japanese import automatic Toyota Rav 4 . Slightly raised, chunky tyres.
Great on the Somerset country lanes round my way. So nice to drive. Why would anybody drive a manual ?

I bought half a car yesterday. I say half a car, its only got 2 wheels, and no roof, but is much cooler than most cars, One of Bertones better designs. All original and unique, from 1970.

I'm thinking of adding the other half soon, so I have a matching pair

I am rather fond of a few pre war cars, 30's, Talbots and Rileys are rather nice . . . Trouble is, those of us normal height now are too tall for what was normal height then, you can't get in the bloody things and drive them properly.

HD's are not proper motorbikes . . . Merely 2 wheeled tractors I've ridden a few.

This one was owned by a 6ft guy who was comfortable in it. She is a little beauty........aussie owner!
