Buying a flat in Shoreditch in 1990.

I lived in Shoreditch in 1990. The whole area was a complete basket case - full of derelict and abandoned warehouses and tailors shops etc, narrow cobbled streets and a whiff of neglect and decay. I used to drink in a pub in the maze of little alleys between Bethnal Green and the Hackney Road; one Sunday night one of the other regulars announced that he'd sunk his life savings into a derelict building down near Columbia Road, that he planned to convert into New York style 'lofts.' Oh how we laughed....

Only one of us is laughing now - and it's not me ...

:shootself

well my biggest return was $77,700-1 for $1 in 2007 in online casino - i had side bet on blackjack was dealt 7d, 7d and dealer got 7d so won the jackpot. In that one moment i had recouperated all my losses for the previous 10 years. Now the scary bit -i lost $20k of it back in just 30 minutes  playing $500 a hand!..EDIT: It was a computer generated hand not live

Mines currently in play. 9 team accumulator 7 have come in so far. Got a Danish game on the go - my team are 1 up on the 75th. Tomorrow ive got Croatia to beat Estonia. If it comes in £832 from a tenner. Not bad considering I haven't had a bet in about a year.

Biggest outlay was a stupid £500 on a photo finish, ended up dead heating (made a bit of a loss, could have been worse!).

Was in a pub once when some chancers gave me a tip.....had a score on it. Needless to say it didn't win. Sad Ken I believe it was called.

I once played pool with a guy who had been at Brighton races all day (and was a bit the worse for wear, drink wise). We started off at £1 for the first game which I won and went for double or quits on the next game. 8 winning games later I declined to play double or quits on the 9th game reasoning with him that he only had to win 1 game for us to be all square and all my efforts to be for nothing. So he bet me a tenner against a betting slip he had which was for £10 on Steve Davies to win the World Snooker Championship. I won again. He then bet me a further tenner against another betting slip, £10 on Desert Orchid to win some race or other. I won again. Both betting slips subsequently won some 2 - 3 months later. So for an initial £1 stake, I ended up winning about £450. Best day ever.

I know there's no such thing as a cert bet, but this did seem like too good an opportunity to pass up on! At 3-0 I will resist the temptation to trade out :D
I've just started that matched betting lark, 100 up in the first week, risk free but need a bit of time to get ya head around how it all works

When they opened up betting on the WWE on Paddy Power I joined and put 500 quid an accumulator for Wrestlemania 28, I had just started watching it again properly and I was adamant of the results. I was in a student bar watching it and when Punk made Jericho tap I about had a break down, won 2 grand off that and never bet more than a 5er here or there since. For those interested I had every match barring John Cena v The Rock, I didn't risk that one.
But wrestling is all set up?

Yep, the markets are very restricted now and the odds are shit but that was early on when they opened it up. I'd provide some PROOF for ENREST but I'm in the USA and at work and betting is ILLEGAL over here so I'll have to wait until I get home.

Easier to remember big losses as they hurt.

Betting once with accumulated winnings, ie monday put on 5 ew, if it wins then 10 ew tuesday pocketing the difference. Decided to do it for a month, after 2 weeks had a horse finish 4th on a 140 ew bet in 9 runner race. Although I had pocketed a decent profit tha stung like hell, tend not to go above 10 trixis or 5 unit stake yankees if I really fancy them. You dont need to stake big to win big so I do combination bets.

I have a grand on tonight's Turkey vs Moldova game - stand to win £200 for a Turkey win, which seemed like free money. What's others biggest gamble/bet?

I had a tenner on Sevilla to beat Liverpool 3-1 in last season's Europa League final. The odds were 25/1. I was going through a rough patch and I mean ROUGH. The last twenty minutes were agony. That £260 went a long way to paying off a few bills and debts at the time.

I'm not a big hitter in terms of stake money. If all favourites won, more and more bookies wouldn't keep opening with staff to pay, electricity, pens, paper, photocopying slips etc. And they make thousands from mugs on the machines.
