The 'new' Rotherham ground is terrific, IMO.

The massively steep rake of the stands (the steepest permissible under UK regulations, I think). mean that sight-lines are excellent, and you feel really close to the pitch.

Nice ground, and a cracking view of the colossal scrapyard next door as well It would be nice…………if it wasn’t in Rotherham (worse than Burnley imo). My personal ‘don’t really care if I don’t go there again’ list includes

Boro - a dump, horrid fanbase, long journey
Reading - soulless, crap traffic
Goodison - awful views from the away end
OT - falling down, terrible to get away from

Played Reading around this time of year going back a few seasons and I planned on getting away quickly afterwards. Got there early to nab a prime parking space and spent two joyless hours in the vicinty of that miserable arse end of nowhere stadium - Terrible.

Late 90s filing out of the away end at Cambridge through a narrow gap in the terrace fencing and someone dropped their guts. With nowhere to go we were all enveloped in a near lethal dense fog of stale pies and lager. It still makes me shudder.

Yeovil is just dull.
The Deva stadium is a great example of how not to build a modern stadium.

I remember attending a match at Plough Lane against Liverpool, must be have about 86/87. It was so overcrowded it was downright dangerous

Rotherham is run down, mainly because Sheffield got all the investment, but some areas are nice and leafy. My inlaws lived there.

I enjoyed our trips to Rotherham. Yes it is rundown but the people and pubs were friendly enough. They also really hate MASSIVE.

Yep, Rotherham is the biggest shit-hole in Yorkshire. Yorkshire is by-and-large lovely, with some cracking cities and great countryside but Rotherham has no redeeming features at all and makes Stoke look like Salisbury. If I was from Rotherham, I'd tell anyone who'd listen that I was from Sheffield (which frankly, is more-or-less true anyway).

I went in the Family Stand there once. When we scored and a few jumped up to celebrate, several hopped over the fence from the home end into the Family Stand looking to pile into anyone without a pie and a flat cap. It had the potential to be a bit tasty (not the pie!). Some brave souls there, looking to take on families with kids!

I'm absolutely not, as I never went to Millmoor, but saw the scrapyard walking to the New York. It's the only time I've I've been to Rotherham (and hopefully won't ever go back). We lost 1-0, it was the game where the ref didn't move the wall back far enough, one of ours got booked for moaning about it even though he repaced it (with us 'helping' him count) and it was 8 steps

I remember going on Costa Coaches to Millmoor to see a 4-3 defeat on a Tuesday night.. The coach had to park up by the scrap yard and there was a lorry there with several members of the local plod in attendance. The driver of the lorry was in the process of being nicked for drunk driving.

My mate and I then went in to the pub next to the ground for a pint but left pretty quickly as the locals were far from friendly and we thought it best to leave a bit earlier than planned

The location of the new ground is very close to Milmoor and the scrapyard...

Having lived in Sheffield for about 5 years, I'm happy to confirm that it's reasonable to describe New York stadium as being "next door" to a scrap yard.

I'd question the assertion that "Yorkshire is by-and-large lovely". Most of it's flat and boring and full of Yorkshiremen.

2 pints of Guiness and 2 pints of Kronenbourg 1664 pre-match for under a tenner the last time we were there (promotion season) - I actually queried it with the barmaid as I thought she'd made a mistake.

Not sure if it was some sort of Happy Hour but it was karoke night and a bloke whose face was completely covered in tattoos got up and sang, with an amazing voice, Robbie Williams' Angels.

The rest of the pub was watchig Horse Racing on giant screens.

Quite sureal.

I'd far rather visit Palace...at least it feels real.

The back five/ten rows at Palace are the worst sight-lines in British football (or at least paired with QPR). At least if you're at the back at West Ham, you can see the whole pitch (even if it is far away).

Like others on here have said, it's a terrible experience that is only somewhat made better by the "fun" atmosphere of the derby (though I thought they were quiet as hell this year). Who cares if it's real if you can't actually see the football, can't get in or out easily, and you have to walk through a ridiculous amount of police just to get in. On top of that, we never actually win there (2 wins in 12 in my lifetime, and I missed both of them).
