Maine Road back in the day. Really dodgy.
It was one of my favourite away days. Also one of my most visited grounds. Arrive at 11.00 via Longport and then there was a pub crawl to the ground up the hill.Port Vale was always so depressing.
Well, I remember going to Longport after having stuffed “quite a lot of beer” in left luggage. But, you’re right, not much else….It was one of my favourite away days. Also one of my most visited grounds. Arrive at 11.00 via Longport and then there was a pub crawl to the ground up the hill.
Port Vale away was where we set the 'locker tinny' record at Stoke station. 88 in one locker. The match was close to Christmas. I think @Guinness Boy may remember it. Or not, as the case may be.
#obsessed part 2I noticed the dig too as per usual.. what I find strange is he claims to have not gone to the Amex or games for years yet also claims to have gone to all 3 Europe aways - something doesn’t add up there
Loved Maine Road. One of my favourite ever grounds.Maine Road back in the day. Really dodgy.

Of all time : Oldham away c1989/90 : open terrace, wind, sleet, terrible performance, utterly miserable experience .
The walk along the canal really was quite nice.In defence of Stoke, on a pleasant day you can walk down the canal towpath to the Bet365 Stadium and got a hot pre-match oatcake at a narrowboat moored nearby. The walk back is also okay early or late in the season when it's still light at 6pm (which, admittedly, rules out most of the football season), but although it is lit, I wouldn't fancy it on my own after dark.
Otherwise, I agree about Middlesbrough and Gillingham, and the Kassam Stadium is a very disappointing ground. Wycombe too - all those clubs that have moved from grounds near railway stations to distant outposts (see also Colchester) deserves low crowds and the opprobrium of right-thinking people..
No just the old Darlington groundThe 25,000 seat Darlington Arena, have we ever played there?
Great old ground and the City Chippy nearby was great. However, came out after an evening game and took a wrong turn and quickly found ourselves in a area where we did not feel at all safe (Moss Side?). Thankfully a cab came by and we were able to jump in and get back to civilisationMaine Road back in the day. Really dodgy.
Never been there myself, but one of my uncles tells me it had the best toilets in English football (now presumably it has the best toilets in English rugby). The 25,000 seat Darlington Arena, have we ever played there?
Only went there once but walked down towards the ground from where we’d left the car and had the old ‘got the time on you mate?’ from a group we went past. One of those situations you felt very lucky to get away from. That same group were trying all the door handles on the parked cars, luckily ours was locked and still there when we went back to it. You don’t need to wander far from the Etihad to find yourself in Dodgeville.Only went there once but walked down towards the ground from where we’d left the car and had the old ‘got the time on you mate?’ from a group we went past. Very true! You don’t need to wander far from the Etihad to find yourself in Dodgeville.
Same, it was my first visit. Not because of the result but it was 100% better then Wednesday at West Ham where the light show at the beginning was the best bit by how ridiculously over the top it was.Seen a few comments saying Stoke but had a decent day out today. Stadium easy to find, easy to park nearby for £6, cheap pie in the ground, good atmosphere in the away end, not a bad stadium compared to some other modern ones, and a nice Harvester meal with my son after the game right next to the stadium. A good day out
He was at all 3 Europa away games#foundout part 1
A good day out overall but surely the biggest motivation to study and do well at school is to avoid having to go to the University in Stoke. We passed the campus trying to find a supermarket for supplies for the train on the way home. There is nothing there for the poor students in the way of pubs, clubs or a decent chain supermarket.Seen a few comments saying Stoke but had a decent day out today.
