Colchester and Oxford are the worst of the early new stadiums from the 1990s, both miles away from their respective town/ city centres, wide open to the element, soulless and (in Oxford's case) unfinished. Yeovil was also a nightmare to get to, back when they were in the league.

In terms of hideous experiences, I've yet to beat Roots Hall when we played them in the League Cup a few seasons ago (I know they're non league now, and thank God for that). Disgusting, crumbling old stadium with holes in the roof, rust and decay everywhere, toilets like the Black Hole of Calcutta and a shitty, homophobic send-off from the feral Essex oiks outside the festering hovel after the game. It was like a smaller version of Selhurst. The only consolation was LuaLua's injury time winner.

Whenever I go to Selhurst I feel compelled to burst into song - Oliver’s Army. I really would “rather be anywhere else than here today”. I don’t know why I keep going back: crap journey to a crap ground and a crap journey home.

I remember Rotherham being pretty grim, stadium was next to a scrap yard (which I believe was owned by the owner of the club). Seem to remember the options of where to go before the game were very limited and ended up in a working mens club which was a proper dive. It was quite funny as the Rotherham fans I talked to had nothing good to say about their home town and thought the place was a dump! "Nothing to do and no jobs" one of them told me!

7k Albion fans was a great day out.
Cheap group train travel to Bletchley, the working men’s club outside the station opened up the function room for Albion fans. Very cheap taxi to the stadium.
I was in the upper tier and the concourse was by far better than the WSU concourse.
Also went to MK Dons before the 7k game and didn’t think it was that bad.

Millmoor, otherwise known as Boothey’s back yard. Their fans were right, and when he tried to screw them for more money, they moved out. He owned the ground, not the club.
The New York stadium isn’t a bad little place, albeit small.

Must have been particularly blowy that day, what with Barrow being on the opposite side of the country from the North Sea.

West Ham to me, seems to be all the crap of modern football but without any of the benefits. Hassle getting in with all the A4 bag and searching nonsense, overpriced drinks and food, plastic feel to the stadium with huge gaps and spaces everywhere, some gaps and spaces are tarpaulined over and a muted and crap atmosphere. At least with other new grounds they are comfortable, architecturally coherent and you can see.

I'd far rather visit Palace...at least it feels real.

I did get in with a bag larger A4. Im awaiting my FBO as we speak.

A lot of reasons to dislike a particular trip. Difficult to chose just one so have a selection of unfavourable away trips.

A ground we never win at - Villa. At least we got to celebrate European qualification and promotion there, otherwise joyless trips.

A soulless ground in the arse end of nowhere - Oxford. A strange and eerie ground, their fans hate their ground too!

Medieval facilities + poor view - Everton. New groind can’t come soon enough. I’m sure the ground was fantastic in the 60’s.

Location surrounding the stadium - West Brom. Huge put off. Rundown shithole.

If we go beyond top 2, always remember cheltenham as a poor away ground with an attitude from club/stewards designed to cause problems

Ninian Park and the Vetch were 2 that were always a mix of interesting and lethal.

That 2-2 draw at the Vetch on a Friday night around 1999 is still one of those how did we survive. Not helped by being thrown out of our digs at 1130pm, breaking back in at 1am, sneaking back out at 7am and returning at 9am to demand a refund.

The 'new' Rotherham ground is terrific, IMO.

The massively steep rake of the stands (the steepest permissible under UK regulations, I think). mean that sight-lines are excellent, and you feel really close to the pitch.

Does that have the additional benefit of making you feel further away from the rest of Rotherham?
