Whats the furthest you've travelled to a game that was called off?

Bristol Rovers 2 season ago as well. It was absolutely pissing it down all day, and I'd managed to walk for hours having been too proud to look at my hand scribbled map to the ground and going completely the wrong way. Absolutely soaked through, sitting in the pub praying that the vague murmers from the Gas were just speculation. What a crappy day!

Halifax Town for an already re-arranged night game, got called off about 30 mins before kick off, think it was the season we won League Two!

yep me too. Remember it well, tuesday night, phoned halifax in mansfield and sheffield to see if it was on as it was hammering it down."nope no pitch inspection planned" we were told. WE were going to go and watch mansfield V cardiff as that was on the same night if our game was off..... got to halifax at about 7 and surprise surprise there was now a planned inspection!!

I actually made it to the m25 for the first game when that got called off as well on the saturday. The rugby had killed the pitch the night before. I remember seeing it thinking no way is this game going ahead after watching the league the night before

actually i have to go slightly north to get out my drive way but then its all down hill from there, didnt know you wanted my whole route plan :p
took me 3 bloody hours just to get to the crawly junction on m23 and then heard the news, fuming!

Live in a house that's facing south then its always downhill LOL. With you though nothing worse than being geared up and travelling to a game to eventually hear its called off. In fairness to the Albion the recent postponements have been made early enough to stop away fans travelling

I've been really lucky in that in over 30 years, I've never even left home to go to a game that ended up being called off.

Hurrumph!!!! First time for everything I suppose. Only got as far as Pyecombe though.

Crap Town
The aforementioned Halifax match.

Hadn't they let the egg chasers play on it the night before or something?[/QUOT

Yes they did !!

Halifax also had a Saturday match called off after a 9am inspection because the pitch was waterlogged , got a phone call as I was queueing to buy our train tickets at Crap Town. Sky showed a live rugby match at The Shay the previous evening and the pitch was a mudbath by the end of the game and it was still pissing down.

When I was still going to see Stockport, before the recent md 'borrowed' £4,000 of my hard earned to pay a bonus to himself and his girlfriend instead of the clubs tax bill, I once worked a 12 hour night shift finishing at 6 am. Got home at 6.45 and got a train at 8 from Reading to go to Macclesfield. Got to Macc at 11.45 to be told the game had been called off at 11.30. Got on the train and went back to Reading and went to bed.

That was definitely mine, took both kids, my son and daughter. One of the coldest days other than any game at Oldham that I had been to, but I still remember my son (7 at the time) coming out with, cant they have a generator as back-up Dad. Perplexed I looked at him and said where did you get that from, straight away he said it was a debate in his 442 football mag the previous edition. Despite writing to Norwich asking for my money back, no way we can travel with 2 children mid-week, Delia ignored my correspondence asking for a refund. Probably couldn't understand the request whilst on her "cooking" sherry. Still I believe your ticket still held for the rematch and were presented with a voucher for a FREE pie. If I was to have taken that up for example I would have been not too much short of £200-£250 for 4 pies what with time off work for the rematch. Anyone of Norwich allegiance, if you are reading this, the way we were treated that day was nothing short of a disgrace, even your stewards were laughing

Bloody hell - we didn't even pick up vouchers for pies - having spent money buying Delia's finest before hand!!

Newcastle - Got the train with 6 cans of stella - didn't hear the announcements that the game was off. Train got diverted through Leeds due to heavy snow. Getting more pissed - didn't occur to us that St James's wouldn't cope with a bit of snow - train running late so got off at Durham and took a taxi to not miss kick off - half way there the driver tells us the games off - hit the nearest pub - several pints - get thrown out off pub for singing Brighton songs and rolling a doobie - go to pizza hut - bottle of wine - get thrown out of pizza hut for singing Brighton songs - walk around Newcatle town center singing Brighton songs - police frog march us to the station and put us on the next train home 'for our own protection'.
Slept all the way home. Miraculously didn't get murdered!

russia. spartak moscow v leeds, november 1999

we lived in egypt at the time, flew to england to join up with leeds fans flying out to russia together. flew to russia. game called off.

peter ridsdale did refund some money for those who travelled with the official lufc tour but even so, long way to go at the best of times never mind when the game is cancelled.

Dagenham yesterday. Were entering the borough of Dagenham when heard on Talksport

- Ireland about 3 years ago were planning on going there but due to issues with Air Traffic control and radar problems the flight was delayed around 7hours meaning we missed the whole match.

The Halifax game for me too although I'd only travelled from Newcastle that evening. A major flaw in my travel plans had meant I would have had to leave just after half time to get back to Newcastle that night (and miss some of the action.. like that was gonna happen) with the prospect of sheltering in a doorway in York overnight. Sso the call off meant time for a few beers with some of the travelling stalwarts before a leisurely journey back to Newcastle.
