I think the problem we have is separating local and national politics, though I understand they are inextricably linked, the thought of any of the alternatives on offer when we had the last election was almost too bad to contemplate.
There should be more seperation of powers in this country. Division between national and local, I mean, I would be sorely tempted NOT to vote Labour if Bassam or (god forbid) Bodfish tried to stand as MP, as opposed to Dave Lepper who I think is a decent bloke unlike those two.
There should be some way to seperare this local personalities from national politics. I can't foresee how, admittedly, but it would be a positive innovation for the system.
