34,766 3rd May 1972 v Rochdale (1-1 draw to secure promotion from the old Div 3) for me. We bunked off school early to get in. I knew some people who were locked out.
were you part of the mass exodus across the playing Field at Neville school.

With all this marvellous CHATTER of the sextastic Amex holding 30,750 people, it got me thinking that well over 90% of Albion fans have probably never been part of an Albion home gate approaching that figure.

So what is the biggest home gate you've been part of? I think I'm right in saying we haven't seen a home gate of over 30,000 since 1979. Since then, we had a few around the 27,000 mark in 1979 and since dropping out of the top flight:

1983 6th round FA Cup v Norwich: 28,800
1988 4th round FA Cup v Arsenal: 26,467
1985 6th round FA Cup v Southampton: 25,800

I think these are the only gates higher than than the current Amex capacity. The Peterborough cup replay in 1985 pulled in 20,000 and the Bristol Rovers home game in 1988 had 19,800.

So what is the highest Albion home gate you've been in? For me, it's the 26,467 in 1988.

Yes I remember the Chelsea Match,35,000. I remember the police holding the crowd at the traffic lights just up the road from the Goldstone I looked behind and remember the crowd stretching back as far as the eye could see.

Chelsea 67, was just a kid then, got I in for free as I was a jackpot ticket seller on the chicken run gates. (north east)
It was so full, I had to stand behind the Brighton dugout with the reserves players. Exciting times, as they are now, sadly don’t know when my first visit to the Amex will be.

The remarkable thing is that during our time in the first division we never hada agte of 30,000 and shortly after getting promoted they reduced the capacity but we still didnt get 30,000 in our first game against Arsenal.

I can recall being in a 32,000 crowd many years ago but not sure who we played, I seem to think that Adrian Thorne scored 4 or 5 goals

That was probably the match against Watford when Adrian Thorne scored 5 of Albion's goals in a 6-0 victory. It was their last ever match in the old Third Division South (which was disbanded that year) and secured promotion to Division 2 for the first ever. Yes I was there also. I think the largest attendance for me was a Cup match against Wolverhampton Wanderers though I can't remember the date.

bha v millwall was 15,390???
My big game rochdale at home 72 crowd 34,766:mad: and a few thousand locked out that night:down:

I was at the Rochdale game. Remember we both needed a point for some reason?. It was so rammed they put the kids at the front pitchside.
Before the days of 'elf an' safety! Think it was predictably 1-1. Correct me if I'm wrong was a long time ago.

May 1977 v Sheff wed. A very nervous 3-2 to BHA infront of 30k +. After following Brighton, and supporting West Ham for 40 years, this is still by far the greatest game ive ever seen live.,
