How much do you think Mr Bloom will give our S American messiah to strengthen the squad / promotion bid when the transfer window opens?

I think it's none of our business to be honest.

I doubt there's a fixed budget anyway to be guessed at.

What a ridiculous statement Frutos, as fans of the club any signings we make will directly impact the rest of our season so I would say it is directly our business!!!

I think we will spend around 500K on transfer fees whether that is an official budget or not and as fans I think it probably is of legitimate interest if not strictly "our business" - I guess it's down to how you want to define it

Unless you get lucky, it takes money to get quality players. Gus has failed on the striker front to date and needs to pay a substantial amount to find this elusive goal getter. Speculate to accumulate.

I think we'll spend between £250,000 and £500,000 if Gus and mr Bloom agree the player is worth it and the deal is within the boundaries of the budget, we'll spend more. I don't think Bloom will set a figure, because I don't think Poyet would expect one. From what business we've done so far, my interpretation is that when Poyet identifies a player that he thinks would be beneficial to the team, he talks to Bloom and they try to make something happen. I don't think Hendrie and Arismendi were within any pre-defined budgets last season, but we signed them both on Poyet's request. I think that if we can sign Noone for £250,000 and then find a striker Poyet wants, I think Bloom would be happy to fund a deal on the assumption that we'll win promotion this season.

As a very wise man said to me the other week, Bloom is a gambler. We're top of the league going into the window, now is the time to spend the money to make sure we get promotion.

I don't think we have any right whatsoever to know what amounts of money are being spent.

I have absolute faith that if money needs to be spent then it will be. The club has no obligation whatsoever to tell us how much is available, if indeed there is any kind of fixed budget, so what's the point of guessing at a question to which we're never going to know the answer?

Of course you are entitled to your opinion so in light of your views let others who wish to discuss the topic do so

I agree. Other clubs and agents would love to know what is available so they can adjust their asking price accordingly. As a poker player Bloom will know that you never reveal your hand.

These days the least of the issues is the headline transfer fee. Bigger expenditure goes on hidden costs such as signing on fee, agents, salary and package. Free transfer could actually commit the club to millions over a few years - whereas a £100,000 signing might mean an overall lower commitment by the club when you take in the cost over the term of the contract. These days the transfer fee is pretty much meaningless as an indication of a club's intent in the transfer market.

I understand where you are coming from TRHK but it would be wishful thinking to think we will get a striker who will score 15 between January and May on a free transfer, hence the poll

A good striker could cost the club between £300 and £750k depending on how long his contract is and might cost £250k pa for three years - so say £1.5m commitment.

Winger .... depends who is selling! But say £250k fee plus £175k pa wages for three years again - makes around £700-800k commitment.

Back-up left back signed on a free but signing on and agents fees plus salary, say £400k committed.

I make that £2.7m for three players over three years, including transfer fees of £1m.

If we harbour ambitions of Championship football next season then IMO these types of signings would be essential.

Bullshit arguement in the early part of this thread regarding if it is the fans business to know how much we have to spend. The club would be at a serious disadvantage if they disclosed how much they had to spend negotiations wise. This is not only confirmed but also the only policy that makes sense. What club in their right mind would release a statement confirming an exact transfer kitty.
