Wetherspoons has been given the go ahead for the site in Burgess Hill town center but it looks like the end for the Kings Head as permission granted for 13 houses.

A SPOONS in Burgess Hill?

WTF, haven't we got enough already? Think about the mayhem.

The Spoons will at least fill two of the empty shops on Church Walk, which is better than them sitting empty. As for the Kings Head the owners practically ran it into the ground over the last couple of years trading so that as a non-viable business it could be converted to housing. No great loss anyway to be honest.

Yes getting too many empty shops in town.
It will also give those early doors drinkers at the Jacobs Post somewhere else to drink ?!

Good news for the town centre, and the other boozers that already exist there. Burgess is deader than flares at the moment, anything to draw people in is a good thing (even if those people are just more pikeys and alcoholics!)

I e been living in burgess hill for 7 months now, the TopHouse is my local and its not a bad pub, the last few months have seen a big increase in the amount of younger drinkers and they're causing mayhem, I hate it, they don't have any respect for anything, ive heard about the new wetherspoons could be opened, can't be a bad thing, if it stops these idiots drinking up my pub the. All the better.

I have ventured down to Jacobs Post and Pulse a couple of times and I think they're shitholes, full of youngsters who get smashed and have a fight or kick off with each other, such a small town syndrome where everyone knows everyone else's business it seems.

I hope the wetherspoons does open as I'm hoping it will get the youngsters out of the TopHouse, which is closing down in a couple of weeks, but just for a refurb, not permenantly, first the potters gets a makeover now this one.

Perhaps burgess hill is on the rise?

18 years I've been living in Burgess Hill and haven't bothered with that end of town for about 15 of those years.

Sounds like it hasn't changed.

TopHouse end of town or JP end? I'm renting a flat off Burdocks Drive, lovely area to live, quiet and peaceful. A lot better than Woodingdean anyway. Even though it can get "lively" in the TopHouse it's generally a great atmosphere, live music on the weekends and a good night, I just prefer the quieter life nowadays.

Both, when I say that end of town i mean anything further up than St Johns Church.

Funny. I lived in Burgess Hill for big chunks of my life.

The Top House has generally been a pub for youngsters.

Why does BH town centre need another pub? The place is dire as it is without yet another pub, needs a complete overhaul attracting shops that sell goods to it rather than pubs/loan shops and what ever other shite is up there.

Charity shops mainly.

I drink in the Top house sometimes (not that often though as it's been a shit pub for over a decade since Jim left) and it's mostly regular faces that have been drinking in Burgess for years, even the younger crowd who tend to swap pubs have probably been drinking there longer than you. Burgess Hill has always been like that so no point in moaning about it, especially if you're a 7 month JCL.

Just walk 30 seconds down the road to the The Railway or Quench

Jesus, never been called a JCL in a pub before. Everyone has to start somewhere. I'm 34 and only ever drank in 2 local pubs. My old one in Brighton and now the TopHouse since I've moved this way.

I like the pub, I know pretty much everyone in there now and drink in there 3-4 times a week. But everyone has to start somewhere right?

It's just these youngsters, they haven't been drinking in there longer than me, they're part of the just turned 18 generation that don't know how to drink yet, can't handle it and turn into pricks when pissed. Give them time to figure out the etiquette of a pub and they'll be fine.

It's a lot better than The Downs where I used to drink. That was a shit hole!!!!!

When this wetherspoons opens up they won't be up the pub that much anyway.

I like the railway, nice pub, and great outside in the summer. Quench I haven't been to that regularly, always looks busy on the weekends, Jacobs Post is more of a Yates style pub which I don't personally like any more, too young and too loud for me nowadays.
