Oh lets be real here. Good result last night....but were we not 1-0 down against a relegation beckoned side???? Until the ref saved our ars*?

The true test of how good we are is against good teams.....carlisle,walsall,forest and leeds coming up.......

The performances of late would not be good enough to get anything from any of those teams.......I hope we can win a couple of those..but anything less and its season over.

The ref saved our arse? Sure, he helped, but I'll credit Messrs Forster, El-Abd, El-Phick and Robinson with getting our points, danke.

Thankfully, football matches aren't judged over four minutes - it's usually just over 90. And guess who scored more goals after that period of time?

I'd say the chance of us finishing in the top 6 is about 40%. As things stand, we'd go sixth if we won our away game in hand by two clear goals, but our remaining fixtures are very tough!

Yeah i agree but i think we are starting to gel and hit form at just the right time

I have to confess to being pleasantly surprised by tonight's result. But we will only reach the playoffs if we beat the champions on the final day - a result that I am far from optimistic about.

At least we'll end the season with a crowd of 8,700.

My final league table (assuming we lose against Swansea):-

1 Swansea 97
2 Carlisle 88
------------------------------------------------
3 Doncaster 87
4 Nottm Forest 76
5 Leeds 72
6 Walsall 70
------------------------------------------------
7 Southend 70
8 Brighton 68
9 Oldham 66
10 Tranmere 66
11 Leyton Orient 66
12 Northampton 64
13 Bristol Rovers 63
14 Hartlepool 61
15 Swindon 60
16 Huddersfield 59
17 Yeovil 56
18 Millwall 53
19 Cheltenham 50
20 Crewe 46
------------------------------------------------
21 Gillingham 46
22 Bournemouth 35
23 Luton 35
24 Port Vale 31

You see 20 more points from the last 11 games? Big ask.

But I'm thinking that Swansea may not be the hardest game of the 11 - their bubble may have burst. Think they'll be over the line by the last game, but won't be in form.

I think away games at Forest, Southend and Leeds are more likely to be the difference. If we want the playoffs, we'll need to WIN some of those games. Swansea will be on the beach by the time they play us.

And I pray Leeds don't make it - we need Westlake.

Im looking at it as the bigger picture.....my opinion is we wont make it...were simply not good enough!

Why state it as Fact that we won't make the play-offs, the only time it becomes fact is when it is mathematically impossible surely, It is your opinion that we won't make it, which is a very different thing altogether, it's your view and not fact.

So because people point out that we still have a chance of the play-offs, with evidence to support their view in terms of recent performances and the league table, why get arguementative and annoyed that they fail to agree with your view of things.

By watching 1 or 2 performances doesn't mean that every other games performances in that season is the same,
and at the beginning of this season, who would have said that the Semi finals of the FA cup would only have Portsmouth as the last Premiershit team left in the competition, surely you would have said that this would never happen, and maybe also state this as fact that they wouldn't be the last four teams left in this competition, but they are, and anything can happen in football, so yes definitely, the play-offs are a real possibility.

What has annoyed me, reading different comments on different stories on North Stand Chat over a period of time is how there seems to have been a very negative attitue developing towards the club and officials in general, and posting threads and comments like this one and stating it as fact rather than opinion is misleading and potentially damagting to the club, as people may read these, think there is somethinmg seriously wrong at the club (which there isn't) and be put off from attending and therefore being able to make up there own minds up based on what they saw rather than being mislead by people who tend to form an opinion based on hearsay and gossip.- everyone is entitled to an opinion, however, when questioned over it and asked to explain or elaborate, and they fail to do so and get defensive with the comments, that i'm allowed an opinion, it, to me at least, comes across as someone having a moan for the sake of it, rather than having something to moan about.

GREAT result last night, but I must admit I'm a little disappointed looking at the league table... now only one game in hand and still 3 points off the play-offs. I thought we would be better off.

I can't see us making the play-offs, but if we can keep these players (Elphick for example) then we'll make a good fist of it next season. And who knows, if we do continue this run of form then there's an outside chance we'll do it this season - but it's a longshot IMO

WWDWLW - and you're disappointed? Your a tough one to please.

One or two points behind a big clutch of teams with two games in hand over most and mathematically in the play off places if we win the one game in hand over the play off side. Surely only the optimistic would have predicted that after our run of form over December/January.

In fact, the recent form is very encouraging:

Nov: W1 D3 L0 (but form sliding and lots of draws disguised the fact)

Dec: W1 D1 L3 (really falling apart - discord in the camp)

Jan: W1 D2 L1 (players leaving - more unrest)

Only three wins in the whole of Nov/Dec/Jan

Feb: W3 D1 L1 (immediate impact of the new players and the "spring clean-out")

Mar: W2 D1 L1 (carrying on the form despite away games - hard games to come)

I understood his disappointment to be that we are still only in 11th place despite that run of form.

Funnily enough, if only we'd managed to sneak a point at Carlisle, the table would have looked so much better!

Last nights unexpected win has shown that anything is possible. Most people had hoped for 2 points from the 2 away games Carlisle and Walsall taking into account both the teams good form but we did better than that with 3 points.

I believe that the crucial games are the away games at Forest and Southend if we win both of those we stand a very good chance.

I do not think that we will make it, finishing 7th or 8th as I think that if we look to be doing well Leeds will recall Westlake in order that we may not overtake them.

At the leastr it makes the remainder of the season interesting and I hope that the crowds at Withdean show that.

Not how I read it ("now only one game in hand and still 3 points off the play-offs. I thought we would be better off.") but I see your point. A great run of form and still down in the double digits. But those two games in hand are crucial - if we can keep this form up, we'll be closing hard on the play-offs. And no team has managed to be consistent this year, so the play-off target may be a bit lower than in recent seasons.

Will be a good season if we are still talking about the next "crucial game" all the way to the end.

Can anyone confirm the terms of his loan?

But unless it looks like we're the only threat to Leeds, it would probably be in their interests to let him stay with us. Westlake won't play against Leeds, but we've still got to play Donny, Forest, Southend, Bristol Rovers and Swansea.
