I’m agnostic about the application, I used the term as it was a direct reference to the post I was responding to.

However since you raise the point, I would not say it’s use was illogical, in many respect tax payers are subsidising many Government services, for example people say the NHS is free, it’s not it’s subsidised by the U.K. taxpayer.

What is a Subsidy?
A subsidy is a benefit given to an individual, business, or institution, usually by the government. It is usually in the form of a cash payment or a tax reduction. The subsidy is typically given to remove some type of burden, and it is often considered to be in the overall interest of the public, given to promote a social good or an economic policy.

What do you think.....based on the above is it illogical to refer to taxpayer funded school meal programmes that are free to poor pupils as subsided?

I don’t think so but I will bow to your evident superiority in English language.

so why is eton a charity then?

I feel that each family's needs should be taken on merit or otherwise, rather than a blanket policy being introduced whereby families, or what passes for families, such as you describe, simply pocket more cash to spend how they please At the very least I would hope that help such as this is given in the form of vouchers to be spent wisely in supermarkets rather than, say, KFC From years of dealing with families whilst in pastoral roles in secondary schools, I can, sadly, only confirm that I have little faith that extra help will be spent wisely and that paying for hot meals for years on end, will be taken advantage of

Tabloid stereotyping

A profound comparison between the life threatening desperation of trying to find a better life and jumping in a water butt for a bet. No wonder the Bear Pit is limited to less that 20 viewers at a time.

Based on the numbers that have died crossing the channel this year, I guess the comparison would be that our reckless labourer would break his back maybe once in every 1500 times he jumped in the butt.

From memory it was less than 50.

He would have a better chance crossing the channel in a dog basket.

it's cos your minimum wage vocation is under threat that you're racist. that's the only reason, isn't it

He needs to make his mind up. In some posts the UK is overrun by "woke" wet lettuces, in other posts the UK is made up of anti-EU, anti-immigration middle aged "patriots" etc and they are the majority and we need to get out of the bubble.

And point of fact; he doesn't earn min wage, he is on the dole. He used to boast about it but now doesn't mention it.

Finland gives every child free school meals, and has done since 1948.

Yes, they are given vouchers.

Sorry to ask, because I can't be bother to look, but out of interest has he come out with the 'I'm just a sheet metal workers son from Whitewawk' one yet as well?

I remember a poster on here that used to regularly mock my working class background, so you are riding a familiar horse.

Then one day he let it slip he was the son of a bank manager, how I laughed, and would remind him regular like.

He’s dead now.

To quote Bette Davis on hearing that Joan Crawford was dead........”my parents always said you should never say bad about the dead, only good. Joan Crawford is dead. Good.”

I trust that’s clear.......we’re in the bear pit, so no crying.

That's quite low, even for you. You say "no crying" but you are happy someone is dead just because they gave you a bit of stick? I think you are the one with thin skin around here. Time to man up, old boy!

is it burn everyone?

No not everyone,

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-30997004

When Alice Gross was raped and murdered by a previously convicted Latvian rapist that was allowed into the U.K., her family had the conviction of their dead daughter and remained committed to the view that free movement was a good thing.

I genuinely thought that was a brave position in the circumstances.

As long as those advocating freedom of movement are those that are murdered and raped etc. then trust me I am happy with that dynamic.

You too right?

Sorry. Let me make sure I’ve understood that. You are happy if someone is murdered and raped as long as they were an advocate of freedom of movement? I interpreted that correctly?
