Should we cater to other addictions too?

Perhaps a brothel for any sex addicts in the crowd who can't go a few hours without a shag?

In fairness, we cater for people who are addicted to Pie, Alcohol, and now sweets. Why not?

We cater for alcoholism.

I really don't see the big deal in having a smoking area. If football clubs are so keen to promote clean living, why are they in the pockets of fast food, beer companies and so on.

Is it a health issue? People smoke. Why not provide an area for them to do so.

If others want to smoke then fair enough, just keep them seperate and then everyone's happy. :)

For medical reasons, I can't spend any time in an enclosed space with smoke wafting about so any arrangement whereby the smoke would be able to waft around the concourses could, to take it to extremes, make it difficult for me to attend games and I doubt I'm the only one in such a position. :)

In general I am in favour of tolerance though.

there is a subtle difference between smoking & drinking

smoke goes all over you and you stink of the stuff

whereas the drink goes down ones gullet

I agree entirely. I'm thinking outside the ground.

I smoke, but I never smoked in my seat at a football stadium or in a pub or in a restaurant. It can be done outside. I do not see why they don't have outside areas for those who are willing. No harm done, surely?

Certainly better than trying to catch people smoking in the toilets.

Definitely against smoking on or around people. It's just not cricket.

As a smoker ... I can't see the problem. Dick's Bar for pre-match refreshments, time for a smoke while walking from there to the turnstile, a tolerable period of abstinence during the game, out into the big bad world at 90 minutes - and a walk to wherever I choose for a post-match drink.

Funny this got mentioned today, some smoker desperate for his fix was getting in everyone's way leaving Falmer station on they way to the match, I couldn't believe how sad it was that someone was so desperate for one after 10 minutes on the train, what do you smokers do on a long haul flight? Maybe I should take it up, it must be amazing if everyone can't bear not to have a smoke for a couple of hours!

Not guilty!! I got the bus!

I just find having a pint and a cig at half time pleasurable, and if they had an area we could do that, ace. If not, I'll put up and shut up, but compromise is king surely?

Get an e cigy. Oh yea they banned that now but if you smoke that careful like you can get away with it easy!

They've banned e cigs? f*** that. I "smoke" that on buses, trains etc etc. They can sod off if they think they can stop me doing that. Breaks no laws.

I find it quite ironic that people say that smokers are "in the minority" and who cares. Its even more ironic, that if it wasnt for smokers picking up the highly inflated tax bill that goes with smoking, and the £11+billion it raises in taxes for the government, then where would that said £12 billon shortfall come from?

oh.

But dont worry, let the Government brainwash you into beliveing that they are against smoking, even by forcing retailers put up screens at kiosks at their own expense, and by putting graphic images of diseases on packets of fags.
And before some twat pipes up with regards to the bill thew NHS totals up, the number of smokers is down quite considerably from that of the 1980's, yet smokers are paying the highest rates in the world.

I would have agreed with you, apart from;

A) It's a piece of piss to go for an hour and 45 minutes without a fag unless you're mainlining nicotine.

B) I DUNT SMOKE ANYMORE YEAHH!!!!!!

Can't you just wait for 3 hours to have a ciggy. I smoke and have my last one at 1'ish and then have my next when I'm back in my car at 5.20pm. I get through 15 a day but can hold out a few hours if needed.

1ish to 5.20 is exactly 3 hours A+ IN MATHS I PRESUME

just say no. Give it up. It stinks, it makes your breath stink and it kills.

smokers and drinkers stink, their breath stinks, it kills the smoker and the drinker, both cost the nhs billions !

However drinking has more evils as it is responsible for 80% of violent disorder offences, drink drivers kill innocent people

lets ban these evils plus the pies too and have trendy salad bars (no dressing of course)

Not what you want to hear, but a sensible thought is to abandon that filthy insane addiction which is rotting your lungs and heart every time you light up and wheeze your way through another coffin nail.

The day when you stop paying tobacco companies for a product which is destroying your insides will be one of the better moments in your life. Dont make that decision too late.....your health is the most important thing you have, and every cigarette destroys your future plans one puff at a time.

Then you wont have to post on here like a junkie would, asking for special permission to have a fix because you havent got the presence of mind to give it up!

It's nothing to do with presence of mind. Some people have smoked for 30 years or more, since it was "fashionable" and either don't particularly want to give up, because they like it, or can't give up, no matter how often they try. Yet others feel bloody-minded about giving up with all the sanctimonious claptrap and propaganda dished out by those who wallow in their superiority because they don't smoke themselves. Non-smokers have vices too. Whatever vices they have (driving too fast, eating too many eggs, farting in public, gorging on burgers, gambling) they should stop now.
