Correct, there is little practical choice in order to ensure the efficient throughput of people through both Brighton and Falmer stations pre and post-match.

I fully expect the transport levy to go up next season, possibly by 100%, as the club are still subsidising 50% of supporter transport costs.

Why though ?

Because it is an easy target that can be shown as too cheap ?

And I wouldn't blame them either and I'd like to see it rise 150%. Like I said earlier in the thread I paid £10.50 to get too each home game from Steyning. I paid £4 by bus then £6.50 from Shoreham by train which works at about £220 a season and that's without the cup games and now I'm paying £30 which is mental.

The dull part of the south coast

That's a policy that really worked for Southampton didn't it? Do you really want to see Brighton referred to as South Coast Club for several months? For the sake of saving a £1000 let's generated thousands of pounds worth of bad publicity.

Southampton have recently had a bad track record in dealing with fans/ public/ media etc. Firstly, the infamous media cock-up of having to purchase official club photographer photos only ( I believe) which resulted in a boycott by certain papers and universal bad press : South Coast Club anyone?!

Secondly, the charging of car parking at the ground on non-match days. So, if you want to buy tickets or merchandise you have to have pay for the privilege of being there. Even their own staff have to pay!

Thirdly, once promoted, the club "upgraded" certain sections of the ground's seating so that existing season ticket holders would then have to pay not only the extra cost for Premier League football, but also the double whammy of paying for the "upgrade" of their existing seat!

So Albion, be careful, be very very careful!

How about turning the lights off now and again? Travelling from Lewes to Brighton as I do most days, you can see the glow from miles away. Does the whole thing need to be as bright as the Sun as often as it is? Must cost a small fortune.

To be fair that was your choice and you could have paid quite a lot less if you had purchased the book of travel vouchers which was available.

I don't understand the question. Either question in fact, but I'll write something anyway...

Currently the transport costs for matches at the Amex is approximately double what the club receive from fans in terms of the 'transport levy'. I'm not aware of any other club that effectively subsidises fans to get to games, and I imagine the club will begin to think that soon themselves. I wouldn't blame them if they do.

No no no, You've got me wrong. I don't mind paying my way and don't want any travel vouchers and what I'm saying is it's f***ing mental that I was paying £220 + a season to travel now I'm paying £30 a season. £30 pounds for the season, Christ, no wonder the club are losing money left right and centre.

Every club in the league has a top scorer,it does not mean they are any good

The transport companies would be keener to ensure everyone paid if they collected the takings

The reason the match ticket includes a travel voucher is to get supporters to & from the ground quicker.I also suspect that only 60% of supporters use free transport but 100% of supporters have paid for it.I personally paid £30 more for my season ticket & £95 for a coach

I agree with the transport thing, how many cinemas, theatres or shopping centres pay for their 'customers' to be able to reach them? It is the one major outlay in my opinion that will save the club possibly millions!

That ties up with a thought I've had recently. Well two thoughts really...

i) The WSU seems too cheap. It was the most in demand section of the ground in the initial sale, and it's far cheaper than the ESU.

ii) Why isn't the front of the WSU more expensive than the back of the WSU? I'm lucky enough to be front row and my view has to be better than the back row, surely. I'm also only a few feet above the premium 'best in the house' seats in the WSM.

(I've got no reason to believe that anything will happen with prices relating to these points but, again, it's something I'd probably look at.)

Cut the amount of stewards, what so they do? Stand in the way of exists and tell people to sit down, it's like a f***ing obstacle course at times

Re Ticket checking and Southern Rail collecting their own revenue, I would imagine this has gone by the wayside for reasons of safety. Can you imagine the bottlenecks at Brighton getting onto a Falmer-bound train if every ticket was properly checked? Or at Falmer station every time a train unloads?

The club pay our coach organisers £2 a passenger a game.this is a common "subsidy"for the thousand that travel by coach each game,as our ticket price increase was greater than the "subsidy" how much should ours go up Bozza?

I guess this is something that will work itself out over time, no-one will know how many fans use public transport as opposed to making their own way. The club have presumably offered the transport companies a fixed sum per game/season. The club will gain if fans make their own arrangements but lose if we all use the buses and trains. The transport companies will gain as they don't have to employ the staff to sell and check tickets and lose if .....er.... erm.... errrrr

What is worrying is that the stadium is 90% full for most games & if the team start to slip down the league then that figure will probably go down next season. Then you run the risk of throwing money at trying to win promotion to balance the books & we all know that is a slippery slope.

London underground seem to mange rather well at peak times 6-30 - 9am and then it's sardine time, arses rubbing each others. Safety yes but stewards go f***ing over board at Brighton, trains leave half empty.

Whilst I agree with the fact that the transport/ free travel costs the club money if I was made to pay along with my sons I would not g by train want to drive to the ground and it would then put he onus on the club to provide more parking which was against their initial proposals to get permission for the ground.

They are the "daylight" lights that keep the grass growing.

I used to wonder why the stadium always glowed when I drive past every day and sussed it when visiting the shop on the way home once.
