Wayne Bridge: I'd like to stay

He's coming to the end of his playing career and he and the misses may be looking for somewhere to settle down. 6 months of him loving life could be enough to swing it for them and keep them in Sussex permanently

I think we have a good chance. He hasn't properly been living in his house in Surrey with his missus for a while now, and wants to settle back in the South. He will know at his age and situation that he will need a drop in wages for his next contract.

Let's just enjoy him and wait and see what happens eh?

As for Bridge, dropping from £95K a week to say £15K a week very unlikely

That was my thinking. I took his comments as what one would say when on loan.

I could see him signing permanently if we get promoted this season, leading to premier league football for him with us, and potentially a higher wage than the 15k you suggest. I could see him dropping to, say 35-45k if he genuinely is enjoying football with us and his friends and family are noticing it, and we might be willing to go up that high in wages (if it's a short term contract so that it is afforded by the extra tv on from being in the premier league, and the parachute payment covers any years in the championship with those wages).

Personally don't see the striker happening and yes if CMS / Barnes get injured it leaves us well short.

It must be remembered that he is 32 years oid and he is not going to get another contract worth £95k a week or anywhere near that so he will have to take a drop wherever he goes. The question is can we make a realistic offer for man of his ability and age as it will possibly be his last playing contract and certainly wont be the high wage he is used to.

His contract is up next Summer with City and he will almost certainly be released - and if all stays well here and if no other club comes in with a good offer (unlikely) then he could take a massive wage drop, although the drop would be propped up by clauses etc.

Would probably join a team like Swansea or Stoke though.

Would love him to stay but unless we get promoted can't see it happening. Even if we paid him £30k per week, it would alledgedly mean him accepting a £60k a week drop in wages.
This in bucketloads.
I'd love him to stay, but our good friend, money, might be the stumbling block yet again. Having said that, CMS came here for the footy and not just the wages, so it's not out of the question. Go on Wayne, you can struggle through on 10k per week shirley?

I draw hope from the fact that playing for the Albion has brought the enjoyment back for him of playing football again, which the people closest to him have clearly recognised - and as he is in the twilight years of his career retaining that happiness is likely to be his number 1 priority with the next contract he signs. Let's be honest - he's likely to be financially set for life already (without knowing whether he has used his money wisely) so if we can afford a sensible wage then I think we stand a very good chance of retaining him. Forever the optimist !!!!!

I can't see him staying, unless we go up this season with him playing regularly. Then it might start to look more likely (although it could prompt a bigger club to come in).

The fact he is on £90k a week is irrelevant IMO, he hit the jackpot with that contract. Given his poor loans pulls with Fulham, West Ham and Sunderland I would be surprised if he gets any offers over £25k a week and even then I think it would be in the Championship. Also at the end of this season he will be nearly 33.

I have a sneaky feeling that Saints may come in for him at the end of this season though, if he continues his form.

Having got promoted with us you think he may want to go back to playing Championship football? I hope that he has more ambition than that

If he's worried about the cash side of things,we have a spare room he can have cheap, and I'll get the Missus to do him a packed lunch and spot of grub in the evening.Easy.

Sounds exactly what he said on Seagulls Player interview after Barnsley match. Trouble is, meeting his wage demands on a permanent contract would be tough. What is good though is that he is enjoying it here which can only be good for his form

I don't see that being as much of an issue as some may think. He's now at the club and would be aware of our limitations, he could just simply save money from his wages from city and accept a lower wage to stay if he really enjoys it. He has stated he's enjoying football more, and we've obviously sparked that passion again - I think if he has the option, he will. And what an addition that will be.

without a doubt bridge is a class act but we are only 3 games into a 46 game season.im not 100% sure but as he is on a season long loan with us surely that means that city cannot sell him before the end of the season. If that is the case then signing a striker should be our top priority.
If bridge is as i suspect is then released at the end of the season and he is still enjoying his football at the amex then i think we will have a great chance of signing him.
