Wayne Bridge: I'd like to stay

I'm not sure money is a big issue to him either. If I'm right he's been on £80K a week for the last 4 years and he seems a fairly sensible bloke so I'm sure he's got all his future needs (pension, properties etc) sorted now. He'll be 33 next season and if that's when his contract expires he won't have anything like that earning power. A good season with us and he might be looking for a 1 year deal and £20K/30K. He'll be just the sort of player a newly promoted club will be looking for which may or may not be us, but if he enjoys his time here he might say bollocks to the Prem, I'm happy enough here and will do another year
Well summed up. I think (as you say) we'd stand the best chance of keeping him if we did sneak promotion although if he's settled down here and enjoying his football he might decide to stay. Will be interesting to compare him vs Mattock next Friday who is costing Sheff Wed more p/w.

Did I read somewhere that Man City are still paying some of Adebayor's wages, even though he has joined Spurs on permanent deal. Don't know how much they are paying but shows that they are eager to get players off their books.

Well, he's here for the season. If it's money that he wants then possibly we will have no chance. If it's regular football he wants and a decent realistic wage, in a nice city, and he's still enjoying himself then we have every chance!

I think Cesc Fabregas has to pay Arsenal £1 million a year for the honour of playing for Barcelona.

Would love him to stay but unless we get promoted can't see it happening. Even if we paid him £30k per week, it would alledgedly mean him accepting a £60k a week drop in wages.

Yes it does

As I thought ... so it's difficult to see his next contract being much more than £30K, so then it depends a lot on his desire to chase the last drops of money

I genuinely believe we have the makings of a team that could challenge this year. If we make the play-off's he is likely to play a pivotal role. At the end of the day we all like to feel wanted and perhaps he may just feel happiness in a nicer part of the world is worth the loss of earnings......

You never know...

Sadly we may be a bit too close to JT world for him to want to stay

glad to hear it, alwsy been a good player but unlucky to be at Chelsea at the same time/position as Cole and hit by injuries at Man City lost his place to others. i think we've ignored the history and he's been able to just get on and play. on the wages, he's had his big pay day and wont be getting big money at his age. if he's enjoying his football and life here, he might prefer playing for 3-4 years where he's happy than go back to frustrations and expectations that go with a substantial wage.

as i read it, they've given him a payoff against some of his outstanding contract. sort of a signing off fee.

I'd agree with that, plus if he's playing well he'd enjoy that too (may not "fit" as well elsewhere) and then there's the big fish in small pond feeling .... there's plenty of reasons for feeling optimistic about him staying I think

Agree would be great if he stayed but he would have to take a little paycut otherwise we will be forking out 60pounds a game just to watch

Will be a shame to lose Calderon as I rate him but he's too good a player to accept sitting on the bench every week and you can't see Gus dropping Bridge or Bruno at the moment, so come January I think he'll be off.
Always the problem of bringing in loan players from top clubs, squad system works at prem level 'cause of the big money but not many decent players want to sit on the bench.

Personally don't see the striker happening and yes if CMS / Barnes get injured it leaves us well short.

As for Bridge, dropping from £95K a week to say £15K a week very unlikely

His contract ends at the end of the season and he won't get anything like 95k for his next one

I bloody love Wayne bridge already. He's a class act.

Life can't be bad for him, he earns a shed load and his mrs is immense plus he gets to play with Ryan Harley.

He has had a crappy time recently and the treatment by away fans is awful but he may of just found the right place at the right time. Would love him to stay

Misleading thread title. He's not saying he'd 'like to stay' at all. If anything it's the classic ambiguous response, dancing round the question with "You never know" and "it might suit me" etc.
