If you visit another country, you should at least make an effort to speak their language IMO, anything else is arrogance on our part.

I've found that if you at least try to speak to them on their own terms, they're far more willing to help you out with any English they have.

Don't the British spend most of their lives grumbling about people that 'come over here' and don't bother to learn the lingo? Quite frankly, I find it embarrassing if someone has not made the effort to learn even the most simple phrases. It does not take much effort at all.

The parents of a good friend have moved to Spain and they pride themselves in the fact that they have no intention of learning Spanish and expect the yokels to speak to them in English. :tosser:

We avoid relegation even if we get sod all, seeing as us, the Germans, the Spanish and the French pay for most of this thing (and they still don't bloody vote for us).

Maybe we should bow out of the next one in protest!
