Yes a red but Tarkowski should also have had one. Ref very quick to book Albion players and manager, lenient with Everton. Scared of Dyche is my conclusion who behaved way worse than RDZ on the touchline.
RDZ got booked again ....?? ffs how many is that 5 ..?

If you are a Liverpool/Manure/City player it’s a yellow.
Another Northern born ref booking the shite out of us again and letting Everton off with everything. Interesting reffing all afternoon. Apparently you can boot the ball into the crowd after an offside call and escape a booking by maintaining you didn’t see the flag or hear the whistle.

MOTD Richards says red because it is dangerous (Lineker: "But football is dangerous"), Lineker says not a red, Wright completely confused but makes the point that Maguire's was more aggressive.
Football is dangerous? Weird comment .

Planting your studs into someone’s lower leg is dangerous.

I think Gilmour’s and Maguire’s are both right slap bang in the grey areas that football struggles to accept exist in the rules and the speed of play.

They are both subjective calls and slow-mo doesn’t help convey the context, intent and force.

I don’t have too many complaints as Gilmour’s foot is high, accidentally or not you have a responsibility to your opponent not to have any height or studs showing in your tackle / contact.

I don't like the argument that we would be screaming for it.
In general I scream for every 50/50 so it's a fairly pointless argument.

In this case, I understand why it's been given, but totally agree with Dunk's opinion on this.
I understand it and don't understand it in equal measure.

it's a 50/50, he's touched the ball and followed through.
Where else is his foot supposed to go?

It's a real letter of the law decision.

A red is not incorrect IMO, and VAR didn't intervene, would have been interesting if ref gave a yellow to start with.

Maguire one looks as bad, if not worse.
Harrys do get different treatment . . . . Mags looked almost deliberate. . . WBG played the ball, not tha man

It's all interpretation and the bottom line is did the challenge endanger a player.

I said "soft" when I saw it first time close enough to take a view on NS Concourse TV...

Side foot nature of challenge. Genuine attempt to win the ball using instrumental aggression - not a deliberate foul and not with desire to injure opponent.

Would quite often only get a yellow and not be upgraded to red by VAR.

This!

Plenty of those go unpunished by the ref, giving a yellow and leaving it up to VAR.
And then the pundits would have been divided about whether Yellow was the right decision or not.

Compare that to last week's ref giving a yellow, for the assault on Mitoma, it is a bit laughable.

"planting" Did Billy "plant" his studs into Onana's leg?
Or did he just hit his legs with his studs showing?
Plant, hit…..it was dangerous to do what Gilmour did and therefore it’s a red. Thats all there is to it
