I used to work with Warren about 17 years ago.
Extremely quiet and introverted chap - I would never have expected him to reach the heights that he has in the public arena.

I don't know him but he has always struck me as a thoroughly decent chap, of the sort that politics needs many more of.

Scanning through the replies to his tweet, and there isn't a single negative response.

That's quite something in the troll-infested waters of twitter.

“I would have wished to lead the Labour group to a deserved win in next year’s elections before retiring in 2020. However, the local Labour Party and others have made it clear they do not want me to do so..."

This isn't a resignation, they've effectively sacked him.

Good riddance. Basically, a Tory with a red rosette.

An extremely dedicated and successful public servant. I hope those who want to succeed him realise you can't wait for a Corbyn government to start providing homes for people on waiting lists and you have to deal with the private sector in the interim.

I chatted to him about 6 months ago, mainly to thank him for continuing to speak out so passionately against anti-Antisemitism despite knowing full well the amount of grief that would cause him. I don't share very many of his political views but as with Peter Kyle and Caroline Lucas, he's someone who you can trust to do their very best. Compare and contrast with Geoffrey Theobald and the God-awful Jason Kitcat.

This is very bad news for Brighton. Not only have we lost a good man but this will undoubtedly mean that we'll be the ones to suffer with local councillors sidetracked and God help us all if the far left win this.

Complete and utter rubbish. The bloke is as far removed from being a Tory as you can get. His Labour credentials are rock-solid. Actually, the reason why he made so many tough and unpopular decisions was that he was having to clear up the mess that your beloved Greens made when they were "running" the town.

When the Greens took over in 2011 Brighton was ranked 322nd out of 358 for recycling, when they left in 2015 we'd dropped to 337th. That's worse than Tower Hamlets. The best chance your party has had of proving that it's not just a bunch of yoghurt knitters but a credible party with new and innovative ideas and you failed on making us more environmentally-friendly. It's your raison d'etre for Christ's sake. Utter shambles.

One major factor in that failure was the open warfare with Mark Turner GMB leader and his bin men. And who is it that has been one of Warren Morgan's fiercest critics within the local party and stands to increase his political clout? The very same Mark Turner - a man who has proven that he's willing to let this town become a rubbish tip if it suits.

Give me one Warren Morgan over a hundred of your useless Green councillors any day of the week.

He is one of tbe good guys. Was my parents' councillor when they were still alive.

Did so much to sort out the city after the green led council fiasco and has managed for two years now to steer a budget through without any major drama.

There will be those who will say he isnt a true socialist because he spoke up against anti semitism. Yes he made mistakes but people who dont do that dont make anything.

Will be interesting to see who steps forward now and whether they can lead a diverse council.

You have misjudged this badly al.

He certainly isnt a tory. He may be more moderate compared to say a tony greenstein or greg hadfield, but then arguably so is corbyn himself.

Also i would have thought its up to the electorate to sack councillors or do their views not count any more?

He was an absolute god send when compared to Kitcat. Kitcat was the worst of the worst.

Diverse or dissected? The only loses in this fiasco are the residents of Brighton & Hove!
