Poyet now realises he can't rely on anyone at the back.
If you added up the mistakes our defenders have made this season, that have lead directly to goals, it would be horrifying.
If you picked ten elevens from Div1, not a single one of our defenders would be remotely close to inclusion.
We can't defend for 90 minutes without making glaring errors.
Poyet is stuck with this lot and it means that the rest of the season will be a relegation struggle.

The thing is Virgo and Elphick pretty much dominated the two strikers today. The only time they looked like scoring was when we threw virutally everyone forward and left ourselves outnumbered at the back. The rest of the game they created nothing of note.

We need stability; there's no point changing the partnership that has been going reasonably well recently.

Personally, I thought Elphick had an absolute shocker................compounded yet again by another very poor challenge in the first few minutes earning him, yet another yellow card.

Agreed. Virgo covered for him several times in the first half to get him out of trouble. I expect an experienced central defender will be signed shortly and Elphick will be in the reserves. We will not get out of this division with him as a regular.

Just outside the elegation zone in january, again. Virgo, Elphick and the rest of the players will find that the table makes it difficult for them to argue that they are good enough. Forster and Murray the exception (when Murray can be arsed). Relegation battle in the third div yet again says it all.

Well said Jamie...sadly, a lot of fans refuse to face up to reality. The style of play has changed under Poyet but not the results. One look at the next 8 fixtures should have every BHA fan extremely concerned. Then, it will be the same as last season, 10 games to save ourselves. Can anyone say with any confidence that we will get 13 points from the last 5 games again ?

After todays result I think we can assume it will go to the wire again. The ray of hope is that Poyet said today he is looking to bring in more new faces. I think the two fullbacks have improved things, so another couple of players may tip the balance. We seem to be a bit more cohesive as a team than we have been over the previous few months.

What game were some of you watching?, elphick had a mare in the 2nd half, he was all at sea at times and virgo had to get him out the shit on more than one occasion, despite his error i thought virgs was ok. forster was poor again too, play breaking down nearly every time he got the ball and couldnt wait to see him taken off, sad but true, calderon was brilliant, his shots apart and navarro was a big loss, cos he was starting to boss the midfield when he got clattered.
Fed up with looking the better team and having much the lions share of possession with nothing to show for it though, which is the gist of what poyet was saying afterwards i think. Poyet sounded confident more players to be signed by monday so heres hoping.

The style of play has changed under Poyet but not the results.

That's absolute BOLLOCKS though, isn't it? Unbeaten in 4 before this VERY narrow loss against a TOP SIX side.

'sake!

I was deeply pissed off when Virgo gifted those talentless pikey's their goal and like many others on this board, had negative thoughts towards him. However, on balance, he did have a good game and he only made the one mistake alhough it was harshly punished and cost us the three points we badly needed.

Elphick was mediocre (again) and did his usual "look at how tough I am picking up a pointless yellow card" act. He is inconsistent and does not provide the strength in the centre that we need. Sorry if that offends all you Elphick groupies.

With regards to our attack, what attack? I am a real fan of Forster but he really didn't deliver today and as for Murray, does he need new batteries?

A disappointing result although I did enjoy the game.

Yes, fair point...I should have specified ' home form '
As another poster pointed out tonight...Slade got 14 points from 15 games...Poyet has 14 from 12...so there is a marginal inprovement.

Vankleek Hill, actually....

I would have thought Forster and Murray weren't 100% today due to running their socks off at Villa Park and also at the Stockport game playing on a pitch that could only be described as a ploughed field.

I think Gus should have played Dickinson and Murray from the get go and given Forster a break, although he did realise what he needed to do about 15 minutes into the second half with the double substitution putting on Dickinson and Holroyd, which seemed too pay off with more attacking play.

The problem the forwards seem to have is actually getting the ball in the net. I was listening to the commentary and it sounded like there were quite a few close shots (over the bar side netting, off the woodwork, etc. Perhaps Gus should should get them to practice putting the ball in the old onion bag, as that's the only way to win games.

Some decent finishing and we would be singing a different tune today. We matched, if not outplayed, in the middle a team who will finish in the playoffs again this season. We could easily have won the match.

I'm a huge fan of Tunnicliffe's but think Gus should stick with Virgo and Elphick, Our players have some quality but they need to form partnerships and understanding so consistancy is required.

We started the second half really well and i think that formation gets the best out of our players. The recent form has been ok except Stockport and Millwall, but we do need to overcome the knightmare form at Withdean

I won't have a bad word said against Adam Virgo. He's my second favourite ever Albion player behind Bobby Zamora.

Cannot believe that backpass but he had a decent game overall. Please don't make him the scapegoat for today.:(

He is the scapegoat for today though, because it was his fault Millwall scored...

what a difference a month or so makes, I was roundly castigated, nay insulted, for daring to support Virgo when he got back into the side and now we have a thread here on which the overwhelming majority supports retaining him despite by all accounts his error leading to the games only goal. We are a fickle bunch are we not....

Sory as know you like Vigo but scapegoat? Virgo and Elphick have been ever present in the last two seasons when we have been fighting relegation. At some point Poyet will make a decision that we have to leave players behind and those that keep failing will be the one's to go.
