I'm worried Reading will, as usual, be sniffing around all our good players. I've not forgotten Coppell / Sidwell / Ingarmarsson / Brooker at all. Bastards.

re Vicente - We def signed him on a yr contract with an option to the 2nd yr - is it purely the club who decide on the 2nd yr or can he say 'no i'm moving' if he wants out?!

Great to see Vicente starting again and shoving 2 fingers up at the wankers on here who were having a pop a few months back - wish I could be arsed to drag up some old threads / quotes on him.

I was one of the detractors - however have post sincere apologies and did at the time say i hoped i would be proved wrong... the best tasting humble pie i ever had!

I'm not sure where the £4million for CMS is coming from, but it would make sense to sell at that price given that we are not playing to his strengths. Who knows what Vicente wants for the rest of his career. He obviously has his demons and he seems to enjoy playing here, so maybe he wants to stay.

I'm honestly not all that sure he'll be looking to move anywhere else, at least not in this country.

He's had a great career, won almost everything there is to win in the game, and is now thirty odd. He had the chance to go to bigger clubs in the summer, yet he chose to sign for us. Presumably that's because Poyet really made him feel wanted, made him feel good about himself after a pretty demoralising few seasons. I'm confident he's not money motivated, as he must have made loads already, and other clubs would have offered him more than us in the summer. He's probably not that desperate to be in the Champions League or whatever (and I don't think he's done enough yet for a CL club to try and sign him). Does he need more medals?

I genuinely think that at this stage of his career, it might really be about happiness above all else. If you've had a crap time of it, and you find a situation that finally makes you happy, do you then risk upsetting that all over again by moving somewhere else? Maybe we're just the right club, at the right time for him.

I guess if he wasn't settled in Sussex, he might be looking to go back to Spain, but we haven't heard anything to suggest that's the case at the moment.

I also don't think he fits in with Brian McDermott's style either- workmanlike, no stars, rigid 4-4-2 every match, for what it's worth.

or we didnt offer pay per play??

I think it will all come down to how well Vicente has settled into the English lifestyle He clearly likes the club and the way we play but whether he and his family can hack it here rather than Spain will be all telling when it comes to offering him another deal.

In that respect, Brighton is clearly a far more attractive place to live than Reading!

Perhaps we might be sniffing around a few of theirs, in the summer. If they want to stay up they will have to strengthen. The likes of Roberts was not deemed good enough anymore at Blackburn for the prem. We will have him for a season, along with Harte and Hunt.

Odds on Reading trying to sign him up after his performance last night. That was the main thing going through my mind last night other than the game.

FYI Reading, he has been dogshit every other game this Season.
Vicente will be with us or go back to Spain end of,another bullshite thread I'm afraid.

Rather harsh as reading is not bad at all:)

This

As I mentioned earlier we took out a one year extension option when he signed which means he can only sign for us, (as long as the terms are the same or better). If he doesn't want to sign again for the extra year his only options are to go back to Spain or somewhere else as long as its not the UK. There was no point in a one year extension option being put in the contract if we can't use it. The only exception would be if both parties agreed to tear up the contract and I can't see why we would do that.

Anyway didn't Gus say a week or so back that the position with Vicente was 'in hand' which would seem to suggest he is pretty relaxed about it.

Do you have a source for this?

Where is this said one year extension option? Andy Naylor said that the club didn't disclose it. I'm not saying he is the oracle of all things Albion of course, but just thought he would know this.

I see various threads on NSC are already clamouring for a clear out of the squad and a rash of new signings but IMHO the best bit of business TB and Gus could do as a priority is to secure Vicente for next season, especially now he seems to have found some fitness. Vicente brings a new dimension to our play and has the ability to open up any team at this level. maybe Gus should be looking to build a promotion squad around Vicente?

Plus it wouldn't do any harm for ST sales especially with a few thousand more seats going into The Amex.

I too hope Vicente will be happy to stay with us but would understand at this stage of his career him taking a bigger payday/pension especially if a Prem club came sniffing around. It would be tragic to see Vicente turning out for one of our rivals after we helped put him back in the shop window. Hopefully we have the edge being able to offer the latin influences at the Club that others cannot.

I am also quietly hoping that Gus can find more or two more gems like Vicente from La Liga.

I think you may be right, but the details are uncertain.

We have an option of a further year - this must mean something to us and not be worthless ( ie poaching :wanker:s like Reading, Norwich, Southampton etc. can't just offer him more money ). It may be he can just go, but that a fee( fixed/negotiable) is due to us, or that he is free to move back to Spain, but not move to an English club.

When the signing was announced it was said that we wanted to get 2 years, but that wasn't possible. The details and reason why was never explained.

My guess is that if Bloom and the board are prepared to fund another year, both Gus and Vicente himself would be happy with that.

The stories of Vicente's wife being pregnant and wanting to move back to Spain, may, though, be significant.

I thought the 1 year option was for Vicente to prove his fitness before the club would commit to giving him another year given his previous history of injuries. If he doesn't take up the deal he would become a free agent unless the contract specifies otherwise. As to his wife being pregnant and wanting to go back to Spain it may be as simple as wanting the baby to have Spanish citizenship by being born there rather than here in England.

If he signs for Reading he will need to learn Polish.
