so you're nicking NSPs idea then? after all these years you're FINALLY admitting NSP got it RIGHT !!

Personally I think you should bin all the latest crap and return NSC to just a plain old messageboard...which is what its supposed to be, not your bloody iShite plaything with twatter this and facearse that

Your first point - 'copying NSP' - no - far from it. Nothing will change in terms of what is acceptable on NSC. If it was unacceptable last week, it will still be unacceptable next week.

Let's be clear - we don't want to be like NSP. We want to be a vibrant, heavily used community, working for the greater good of Albion fans. Hope this clarifies.

On your second point - thanks for reiterating the opinion I think you made elsewhere a week or so back. We must be doing something right for you to have made over 25,000 posts: roughly 10 a day, every day, since this version of NSC was born. I'm sure you'll carry on whether or not there is the odd link to Twitter here or there. Regardless, this has nothing to do with Google-Adsense-gate.

I'll have you know NSP has been VIBRANT this week!

yes 25,000 posts come from when this place was NORMAL and sure i'll keep posting here (unless certain things change and I'm told not too.....but thats another story), but like I said its my personal opinion...does'nt make me wrong does it :D Dont get me wrong, what you have done (and time taken in doing so) for NSC is legendary, but recently its become abit WANK *IMO* with this new fandangled shit. If Google have a problem...give them the elbow and find another way....there are ALWAYS other ways

Just read this thread and would like to offer my 2p worth with regard to a subscription or premium membership scheme.
If you're going to have such a scheme, then you need to provide members with something for the money. Enhancements could include restricting access to the Ticket Exchange, Away Travel and other forums (including a NSFW forum), the ability to post/view/download attachments, a NSC email address etc.
It's worked on other busy forums (419eater).
Personally I'd be happy to bung in £10 or so a year (only for the Rachel Riley pics though)

Edit: If it helps, I'd be willing to assist with moderating, already do it on another (private) forum.

Thanks and agree entirely - if we did offer some form of subscription it would be on the freemium model:

- A free service available to all.
- A paid premium service that offers extra features.

However going down this route is still very much a Plan B for us at this time.

I've not seen any vBulletin modification that would facilitate that and even if there were, I'm not sure how it would help. Simply we're going to cut the board in 2...

- The Big Board. We hope to be able to continue supporting NSC through the presence of Adsense here.
- (Potentially) NSFW. We won't run Adsense here - it will either be ad-free or, maybe, ads from another network.

We request posters to post anything that could be NSFW in the latter, everything else in the former.

We ask all posters to report anything that is in the former that should be in the latter. Mods will move it.

I might provide a 'master forum' view so that people can get a composite thread listing across all forums should they wish. When they drill down to a specific thread what they will see will then be determined by which forum that thread actually resides in.

Forum rules will be re-specified and the moderating team is likely to be bolstered.

Not mad keen on this idea it has to be said. Can't we just be a football message board? Granted the majority of members are male, but they can find what they need elsewhere...advertising the fact that its nsfw and giving it its own folder is going to make it a worse free for all than before in that new folder.

Personally I think that Google's attitude is the thin end of the wedge that is wider internet control and censorship by government/corporates and should be avoided at any cost.

Another more obvious revenue raising idea that occured to me was the football club itself. NSC is a valuable asset to the club in terms of free advertising and generally raising the club's profile as well as providing a free service to the clubs customers (the fans). I'm not sure if the club do currently contribute or have ever been asked to but perhaps they would given the improved financial position. Obviously this would be conditional on no editorial control what so ever. In fact I don't even recall a club advert on NSC.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a forum where, nomatter how focused the main subject matter is, there hasn't also been space for 'off-topic' discussion. Our problem, if anything, has been that we've always bundled the off-topic in with the on-topic. Time and time again, when asked, NSCers have indicated this is the way they like their NSC.

So, that format is going to continue in the main. What we will do, however, is ask posters that the more risque stuff is posted in the new forum. Where posters fail to do this, or a previously clean thread moves in another direction moderators will move the thread.

What is and isn't permissible on NSC will not change. Thinking about what we allow, I reckon the unwritten rule of thumb has pretty much been that if it's too strong for Page 3 of The Sun then it is too strong for NSC. That is still the case.

Those who have wanted less puerile content should find that The Big Board is more to their tastes than it has been before, those who revel in the infantile can still call NSC home if they wish.

I think NSC is tremendous fun 99% of the time and we certainly don't want to lose that.

Google's terms state:

As stated in our program policies, AdSense publishers are not permitted to place Google ads on pages with adult or mature content. In addition to photos and videos which contain nudity or sexual activities, below are some other examples of unacceptable content:

* Lewd or provocative images
* Crude or indecent language, including adult stories
* Sexual tips or advice
* Sexual fetish sites (e.g. foot fetish content)
* Adult toys or products
* Ads or links to external sites containing adult content
* Adult links and/or adult keywords within the meta data in the source code of your site

I cannot see how NSC could function under these conditions, unless it purely becomes a football discussion in very limited terms which is exactly what the CPFC site I look at (occasionally) is.
F'r instance how do you define what an "adult" story is? Is anything to do with excreta out? Would have decimated my threads...

Completely agree. All other forums I post on have off topic sections, which to be honest I find a little annoying. I like everything in the one place, just the way many other NSC'ers have always liked too as you say.

My concern is for you! and that is by setting aside a forum specifically for NSFW you are going to step firmly into the debate about what actually that means. By moving it off the main board and out of the view of adsense then there are people on here who will push it to the limit. I'm not a moderator but I can see that most of you mods will have to trawl through and delete some fairly tasteless stuff.

Secondly a great deal of the best debates on NSC are off topic, gardening, religion and the odd flounce over dead horses....are you going to be moving those too? In essence what you're creating is what we've strived hard not to do.

Can't we just remove anything worse than page 3 stuff (and warn the poster with a 3 strikes and you're out policy) and stay as we are?

I'd be quite happy to see NSC without any of the above.

The only one that I think is 'difficult' to moderate is * Crude or indecent language, including adult stories and I trust that the mods can manage this effectively... allowing some license.

I also suspect that this is the least concerning to GoogleAds - and the least likely to be policed in any meaningful way - images and links are what they are really concerned about.

No, because 'as we are' means no Adsense income which largely pays for NSC.

All of the off-topic stuff you allude to will remain where it is unless it drifts massively. As a moderator group we may have a flurry of activity initially whilst we ensure people get used to the slight shift. I don't expect it to be anything we shouldn't be doing anyway - namely stopping trolls from ruining decent threads.

The rules will be very clear and I'll happily rename the alternative '(Potentially) NSFW' forum to something else - suggestions welcome - since I expect very little will actually be NSFW because a pair of breasts is about as strong as NSC gets.

My "as we are" refers to the folder structure. I'd like to stay "as we are" without anything they declare inappropriate? I assumed from your post above anything lighter than page 3 stuff was ok, but if thats not ok then remove it.

My question is more - is this stuff truly needed? and secondly if we object to having this being imposed on us what other alternatives do we have to raise this sort of income without censure.

I notice my google ads have been missing for a day or so anyhow - is that bad news or are we on probation?

I'd recommend a football forum and an 'other' forum, since most NSFW stuff would be categorised as other anyway.

With the site getting busier and busier, I feel there are too many posts now for there just being a single forum.

Google stopped the ads around the time I started this thread. There is no room for negotiation with Google - no email back and forth. I probably have a chance to apply to be let back on, but it's done via a form and someone somewhere may review our case. If we fail at that time then that is that - no Google ads ever again.

Because of what is likely to be a one hit process, I want to give us the best chance of being re-accepted and also of everyone knowing how things will work as we progress. We are currently losing money every single day, but I'd rather take a bit of time to get it right before trying to get back in.

Have to say that it seems a logical and largely unavoidable progression (if regrettable) in the circumstances. Whilst, as others have said, it is probably links that concern Google most, there has been a proliferation of attemptedly titillating images recently (as every close season/holiday but with more members now.......). They doubtless track the trend so getting our house in order before re-applying makes sense. Is it desirable or even broadly acceptable behaviour on their part? Possibly not but then it's their ball to play with and if Bozza says there are no realistic alternatives if we are to maintain the scale which allows for much of the enjoyment of this site, then that's where it's at. Certainly no shortage of volunteers to moderate (myself among them) and for those who radically disagree there is always the childrens' playground that is NSP or the trainee-journalists' plaything aka Brightonfans.

The Leeds site (WACCOE) has an interesting pricing structure. Not sure of the benefits etc but:

Standard stuff on forums for premium memberships includes...

Bigger Private Message capacity
Ability to set avatar, custom title and signature (or ability to be more flexible, use bigger images etc)
An email address at the site, eg username@northstandchat.com

With NSC - we give almost as much freedom as the board will allow anyway, so we might have to rein in some privileges for non-premium users if we ever went down this path!
