Thought the reffing across the tournament was brilliant. With luck, the Prem took note.

I think there were plenty of examples of excellent reffing but you would expect that when you get the best refs from each country. That said, I not sure why you think that the rest of the prem refs will suddenly improve to that high standard.

I'm not sure the Prem refs are that much worse, I think they way they are instructed to referee has made for a nit picky game where the ref is at the centre, rather than a benign, almost invisible presence facilitating the game. Prem refs seem to take VAR to the nth degree, use VAR too often, regard every touch on a player as a foul etc. This wasn't what happened in the Euros. We could change that overnight in the Prem if the refs are told to adjust how they interpret the laws of the game.

So in the end VAR lets us down. A review should have suggested the ref look again at the awful Jorginho challenge. Definite red imo.

I part agree. For me, it was a definite red, over-the-top with excessive force, with the potential to cause a serious injury -- all of that says red. The ref should have shown it immediately, but I don't think VAR had a look at it -- both errors. Where I differ is that I'm not sure it let England down. I'd doubt that showing Jorginho a red would have affected the result in injury time and, given that he surprisingly had his penalty saved, it might have even given Italy yet more of an advantage in the shoot-out.

I think that it was a clear red for the studs up on grealish. I also thought sterling got a clear knee to the back of his leg when he was adjudged not to have been fouled. I was slightly surprised this didn’t get more coverage.

Agree with you on both, BUT like cricket I like the fact that the onfield decision is held as the definitive decision unless it’s really clear and obvious.

Sterling is a diving little shit in all honesty, thinking every contact on his person is a foul, he thinks basketball rules apply to him, so yeah he may have got a bit of contact, but can also see it wasn’t clear and obvious.

Jorginho I’m struggling with however - that to me is fairly clear he went over the ball with excess force and a red card. Think we all know 99 out of 100 that is a red card in the PL.
