Hated him when he was at Cold Trafford, but he won me over in his first press conference after moving to Goodison when he refused to answer any questions about Manchester United, immediately started talking about Everton as "us" - and has never wavered since.

Agree, Thought he was total dross at Man Yoo but has shown to be a really good player for Everton, loyal and dedicated to the cause. Still an absolute rock at 35 too!

This is what always annoyed me about Scholes. Not so much the fact that he couldn't tackle, or that he was often reckless to the point of endangering fellow proffesionals, but more the reaction of refs and the media when he did so.

Two footed lunge from say, Karl Henry = red card, and comments from the media including the words "disgraceful, cynical, etc"

An identical tackle from Scholes = yellow card, and a myopic, sycophantic media chuckling "Haha, Typical Scholesy".

exactly, he was in central midfield, a position where you quite often need to tackle......why didn't he just learn instead of being a prick?

it wasn't like he was a combative midfielder either, like keane or vieira, who were doing a LOT of tackles........he just tackled every now and again, with EACH ONE being absolutely awful

ginger prick

Hard to argue with any of that.

Not sure why I deserved the abuse at the end though :jester:

Someone I met who has played with Scholes a lot maintains that he can tackle perfectly well, but just prefers not to.

Four actually, Gridiron, Baseball, Hoops and Ice Hockey. Judging by people like Brad Friedel they also have long careers which is rare in any on the four 'main sports'.

soccer is catching up with 2 of those, and possibly overtaking at least 1

mls now has an higher average attendance than NHL and NBA, and the amount of media exposure is growing year on year, both for their domestic game and european football

plus in terms of participation it's one of the highest

in which case he's a bigger prick than i thought

imagine just "preferring" to put an opponent in risk of injury

dick

LOL....i stand corrected!

But he does seem to be the perfect pro off the pitch, a great example to a lot of young Prem league stars...imo.

Demba Ba.

Mark Albrighton seems like a jolly nice young chap, too.

'Liked' would probably be a strong word, but I think it's difficult to actively dislike Gareth Barry, as he's such a mind numbingly boring bastard.

You're well wide of the mark with half of them. Saha is thought of as malingering. Davies..well I like him but fans of poncy, delicate teams like Arsenal can't stand him as they think he's a dirty player. Giggs & Balotelli are or have been hugely unpopular. Van Persie is a moody sod. O'Hara goes out with Danielle Lloyd which renders him your typical thick footballer in my estimation.

The rest are just MEH to me. Apart from the massively FLAIR Michel Vorm.

i disagree with your comments.
